My recent stay at The Gainsborough Bath Spa was a memorable blend of luxury, comfort, and exceptional service. From the moment I arrived, the hotel delivered an experience that felt both indulgent and effortlessly smooth. 🛏️ Rooms & Comfort The room was beautifully presented — elegant décor, immaculate cleanliness, and a bed that made it far too easy to sleep in. Thoughtful touches throughout the space created a sense of calm, and the overall atmosphere felt genuinely premium The spa is unquestionably the highlight. Having direct access to Bath’s natural thermal waters is a rare privilege, and the hotel has created a serene, restorative environment around it. The pools, saunas, and relaxation areas were spotless and well‑managed, making the entire experience feel exclusive and unhurried. Breakfast was high‑quality, with fresh ingredients and attentive service. The dining areas were relaxed yet refined, and staff were consistently warm and professional. Every interaction with the team was friendly, efficient, and sincere. Staff struck the perfect balance between professionalism and approachability, which elevated the stay even further. Situated in the heart of Bath, the hotel is perfectly placed for exploring the city’s historic sites, shops, and restaurants. Everything is within easy walking distance.

This is written with regret. I had given the hotel a chance to put this right. All I wanted was a simple apology, they failed to do that. I would have almost certainly returned given a simple apology. Nicest hotel I have stayed at in a long time. Staff were flawless and it is a shame this review can not reflect that in stars. The breakfast made my partner very unwell, it was not just of poor quality but not safe. Hotel is lovely but avoid any food there. The second star is saved by the outstanding front desk and concierge team. Otherwise it would be 1-star. At £500+ for the night and £40+ PP for breakfast, I had high hopes only to be left searching for a cafe after. 20% of the price and 10x the quality.

Our stay at The Gainsborough Bath Spa was a mix of positives and disappointments. Check-in was pleasant, and the concierge team was outstanding — extremely helpful with luggage, car parking and providing information about the city. However, the overall experience did not meet true 5-star expectations. First, I was asked to choose breakfast times before check-in was even complete, which felt unnecessary and rigid, especially as we arrived in the morning and the restaurant was virtually empty. Second, the room heating appeared fixed at around 20.9°C. Fine for sleeping, but too cold to relax in the room. Housekeeping attended but could not resolve the issue and said maintenance would follow up. Unfortunately, no one from maintenance came and the problem was never fixed. Third, it was not made clear at booking that spa access for hotel guests is limited to 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the evening, otherwise an additional £70 per person is charged. For a luxury hotel, this felt like penny-pinching rather than premium service. Finally, on checkout the front desk effectively added £20 for “tips”. I have never seen this practice and it left a bad impression — tips should be discretionary and earned, not added without consultation. A luxury hotel should feel effortless, transparent and guest-focused. Unfortunately, this stay felt overly restricted and transactional — not the 5-star experience the price and branding suggest.

Very comfortable hotel. Really fantastic and friendly service. Couple of issues with my son's room which they dealt with immediately and moved him to another room. But the piece de resistance is the amazing Roman spa which guests can use in the morning and evening for 2 hours. Several different pools of different temperatures plus sauna and steam room. And of course a gym and treatment rooms available all day. Delicious family dinner in the restaurant - really excellent food. Would happily go back.

We loved everything about the Gainsborough, the staff were very helpful, the Spa was brilliant, the room was clean and today, also the maid was very polite and helpful. We were also upgraded to the Gainsborough suite as we mentioned it was our 25th anniversary so this was a plenty surprise, the hotel went above and beyond as they laid on a complementary fridge of drinks, a bottle of wine and a big box of Bath cheeses. Truly wonderful stay - thank you we come again.
