Beautiful balance of traditional and modern Japanese style. We stayed in the suite and it was just amazing. A wonderful start to our Japan holiday. Great location - so many lovely little restaurants and access to coffee and convenience shops. Breakfast was a great experience in the Japanese tea house next door.

Our stay at the Ebisuya was fantastic! We stayed in the large room with the king size bed and additional beds in the tatami room. My son loved the tatami space and said it was extremely comfortable. The room was super clean, and the in room washer/dryer was a huge bonus for us. The bathroom was lovely with a huge bathtub, and a waterfall shower, we loved taking turns soaking after a long day of walking. The location was perfect, 10 min walk from the busy downtown center of Kyoto but the hotel felt so quiet and peaceful. The front desk staff were super friendly and helpful with great local recommendations as well. Highly recommend staying here if you’re going to Kyoto.

The room was excellent, and all of the staff were awesome. The staff were very pleasant and worked with us on trying to find kimono rentals. I will recommend this hotel to families and friends who plan on visiting Kyoto. Plus I would love to thank Tomo san for making our stay memorable. Please give machiya hotels a try. Sleeping on a futon In a tatami room was one of the highlights of our trip, and for those who don't care for sleeping on the floor you can get a western style room that is just as great as the traditional room. We stayed in both.

This was the most spacious apartment. We had 6 adults and had room to move which was great.
Beds were comfy and there was everything you needed. Check in is self serve so just have to work that out and you are all good to go.

Low key when you walk up but don’t disappoint. Huge beautiful room with regular bed for us and tatami mats/foutons for the kids. Great walkable neighborhood close to the huge outdoor market and all the temples. Really perfect

This was hands down our favorite night of the trip so far. We booked the Machiya Superior room and it was such a special experience. The traditional ryokan style made it feel unique and very Kyoto, but it was also incredibly comfortable.
The futons were way more comfortable than we expected as westerners who’ve never experienced them. The heated tatami floors made the whole space feel unbelievably cozy. After long days out exploring, coming back to that warm floor was honestly amazing. We also loved the little private garden, it made the space feel calm and tucked away from everything.
The location worked really well for us. We mostly grabbed taxis and everything was quick and easy to get to.
Small detail, but important: the western-style pillows were great (better than our previous hotel, honestly). You can tell they’ve put real thought into comfort.
We would absolutely stay here again. If you’re looking for a traditional Kyoto stay that still feels comfortable and relaxing, this is it.

Fantastic location with a stunning building in traditional Japanese style.
I highly recommend this place. The neighborhood is very well served, with convenience stores, restaurants, shops, and a supermarket all nearby.
Everything is easily accessible and within walking distance.

We had a wonderful stay at the Machiya Ebisuya. It's a bit far from Kyoto Station but still walkable, and really central to much they Kyoto has to offer. The room and amenities were great.
