Kuala Tahan is a Malaysian village located at between Tahan and Tembiling Rivers in the state of Pahang. The word Kuala means "confluence" in Malay, and the Tahan is a tributary of the Tembiling River. This is the entry point to Taman Negara and can be reached either by boat from Kuala Tembeling. It is located about 185 kilometres from Kuala Lumpur by road. There are several amenities in Kuala Tahan such as river crossing jetty, floating restaurants, tourist information centre, groceries shops, public toilet, small government clinic, bus stop and car park. Kuala Tahan also serves as a base camp where most of the tourists stay while they are in Taman Negara. There are several accommodations at Kuala Tahan which serve as Taman Negara's base camps such as hostel, dormitory, guesthouse, chalet and resort. The Mutiara Taman Negara Resort is the only resort within Taman Negara National Park while other hotels and resorts are located within Kuala Tahan village area including; Persona Resort, Rainforest Resort, Woodland Resort, Park Lodge (a bit far from the Taman Negara entrance), Durian Chalet, Teresek View Village, Liana Hostel, Agoh Chalet and Travelers Home.
From Kuala Lumpur city centre, you can take a taxi or drive to Kuala Tahan for 3 hours and 30 minutes by using E8 and Route 98 to Jalan Jerantut- Kuala Tahan.
Taman Negara National Park is the first and the oldest official Protected Area in the country, originally named King George V National Park. The park was renamed Taman Negara after the nation gained independence in 1957 and was declared in 1938 by the Sultans of Kelantan, Pahang and Terengganu (during King George's Silver Jubilee).
