Zahir State Mosque - Built in 1912 on the initiative of Tunku Mahmud Ibni Almarhum Sultan Tajuddin Mukarram Shah, Masjid Zahir or Zahir State Mosque was constructed on the gravesite of the state’s warriors who had fallen during a battle with Siamese intruders in 1821. Kedah’s State Mosque was officiated in October 1915 by Almarhum Sultan Abdul Hamid Halim Shah. Besides being a major landmark in Kedah and one of the country’s greatest and oldest mosques, the mosque also made the top ten list of the world’s most beautiful mosques. Its Moorish architectural style was greatly influenced by a mosque in Langkat, North Sumatera that goes by the name of Masjid Azizi. Its five striking black domes – one large and five small ones – represent the five pillars of Islam.

Kedah Royal Museum - Tracing back the history, the Kedah Royal Museum was a former palace built in 1739. It has been burnt down, rebuilt, and renovated several times over years. It is the oldest Royal Museum in our country, a very memorable building for the people. In the museum, they display a lot of stories, explanation and life time memories of the royal family, including our first Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman, who was also the prince of Kedah royal family. The interior was entirely wooden made, the outside is painted in yellow, a representative color of Royal family. Photographs and video is not allowed in the museum. You will only be able to take photo from outside. Once you walk in you must take off your shoe as a sign of respect to the Royal Family.
