Overview of Hilton Kuching

Standing proudly along the celebrated Kuching Waterfront,

Hilton Kuching

is a landmark five-star hotel that has welcomed travellers to the capital of Sarawak since 1988. Situated at Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, the hotel commands an enviable position overlooking the Sarawak River, delivering panoramic views of the waterfront esplanade and the lush tropical landscape that defines Borneo. With 315 beautifully appointed guest rooms and suites, Hilton Kuching combines international hospitality standards with the warmth and cultural richness that Sarawak is known for, making it a premier choice for both leisure and business travellers visiting East Malaysia.

Following a comprehensive renovation, Hilton Kuching has been thoughtfully reimagined to reflect the natural beauty of Borneo. The refreshed interiors draw inspiration from the island's landscapes, weaving Southeast Asian design elements with bamboo-inspired accents and curated local artwork throughout the property. From the moment guests step into the contemporary lobby, there is a tangible sense of place — a hotel that celebrates its Sarawakian heritage while delivering the polished, world-class service that the Hilton brand is renowned for. The hotel's location places guests within walking distance of Kuching's most iconic attractions, including the historic Main Bazaar and the vibrant waterfront promenade.

Whether you are visiting Kuching to explore the rainforests of Borneo, experience the city's celebrated food scene, or attend a conference at one of the hotel's state-of-the-art event spaces, Hilton Kuching provides an exceptional base. The hotel features a revitalised pool deck, Malaysia's first Hilton Kids Club, multiple dining venues, and an Executive Lounge with sweeping river views — all designed to ensure that every guest enjoys a memorable stay in this captivating city.

Room Types at Hilton Kuching

All 315 guest rooms and suites at Hilton Kuching have been refreshed with a contemporary design that features floor-to-ceiling windows, allowing natural light and stunning views to flood each space. Every room is fully air-conditioned and equipped with a 55-inch LED television with premium channels, complimentary high-speed WiFi, a minibar with refrigerator, an electronic laptop-compatible safe, a work desk with adjustable lamp, and a coffee and tea maker. The private bathrooms are fitted with rainfall showerheads and designer toiletries, ensuring a luxurious experience across all room categories. Daily housekeeping is provided as standard, and children up to 12 years of age stay free of charge when sharing a room with a paying adult using existing bedding.

Guest Room

The

Guest Room

at Hilton Kuching offers a comfortable and well-appointed space of approximately 34 square metres (366 square feet). Available with either one king-sized bed or two twin beds, this room category comfortably accommodates up to two adults and is ideal for solo travellers or couples. Guest Rooms feature views of the city skyline and come furnished with all of the hotel's signature in-room amenities, including the 55-inch LED television, complimentary WiFi, and the refreshed contemporary décor inspired by Borneo's natural environment. Furnished with a king-sized bed and a separate seating area, this room category is particularly well-suited for couples or guests who appreciate having room to relax. The Deluxe Room offers enhanced views of the city and river, and its larger footprint allows for a more spacious bathroom and living area. Location and Getting There

Hilton Kuching

enjoys a prime position in the heart of Kuching city centre at Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, directly along the famous Kuching Waterfront. This central location places guests within easy reach of the city's most popular attractions, cultural landmarks, and dining precincts. The historic

Main Bazaar

, Kuching's oldest street and a treasure trove of antique shops, handicraft stores, and traditional Chinese shophouses, is just 500 metres from the hotel — a pleasant stroll along the waterfront esplanade.

Kuching International Airport

is located approximately 11.4 kilometres from the hotel, and the journey by car or taxi takes around 20 minutes under normal traffic conditions. Ride-hailing services such as Grab are widely available in Kuching, offering a convenient and affordable way to travel between the airport and the hotel. For guests who prefer to arrange transfers in advance, the hotel can assist with private car arrangements upon request.

Within walking distance of the hotel, guests can explore the

Kuching Waterfront

promenade, which stretches along the south bank of the Sarawak River and is lined with food stalls, parks, and public art installations. The

Astana

(the official residence of the Governor of Sarawak) and the historic

Fort Margherita

are both approximately one kilometre away, situated across the river and accessible by a short boat ride known locally as a tambang. The

Sarawak Museum

, one of the finest museums in Southeast Asia, is also within easy reach of the hotel.

For those looking to venture further afield, the

Semenggoh Wildlife Centre

, famous for its semi-wild orangutan rehabilitation programme, is approximately 20 kilometres south of Kuching. The

Bako National Park

, home to proboscis monkeys and diverse ecosystems, is roughly a 40-minute drive followed by a short boat ride. Tour operators throughout the city can arrange day trips to these and other natural wonders, and the hotel concierge is well-equipped to help guests plan their excursions.

Dining at Hilton Kuching

Hilton Kuching is home to several distinctive dining venues, offering guests a diverse culinary journey that spans local Sarawakian specialities, Chinese fine dining, and international cuisine. With multiple restaurants, a coffee house, and bars on-site, guests have no shortage of options without even stepping outside the hotel.

The

River View Café

is the hotel's signature all-day dining restaurant, serving an extensive international breakfast buffet each morning alongside views of the Sarawak River. The buffet features a wide array of local and international dishes, and guests frequently highlight the quality and variety of the breakfast spread. For lunch and dinner, the café continues to serve buffet and à la carte options, with a particular focus on Sarawakian specialities such as Pansoh Manuk (bamboo chicken with fragrant rice) paired with local tuak rice wine.

Toh Yuen Restaurant

is a refined Chinese dining venue known for its Cantonese and Szechuan cuisine. Set against an elegant red-and-gold décor, Toh Yuen offers views of the waterfront esplanade through large windows while traditional Chinese music plays softly in the background. Signature dishes include buttered prawns and fern fried with garlic, and the restaurant is highly regarded among locals and visitors alike for its authentic flavours and atmospheric setting.

The Terrace

is a relaxed poolside café set amidst beautifully landscaped tropical greenery. The à la carte menu features a mix of local specialities and continental favourites, accompanied by refreshing cocktails and beverages — an ideal spot for a leisurely afternoon.

Café Cino

caters to those seeking premium coffee and light bites, including freshly made sandwiches, pastries, and cakes. For evening entertainment,

Senso Bar

serves expertly crafted cocktails and features a stage for live music performances, creating a lively atmosphere to cap off the day. The hotel also features

RYE

, a sophisticated speakeasy-inspired bar with a whiskey-forward drinks selection, craft cocktails, and thoughtfully paired light bites in a refined yet relaxed riverside setting.

Beyond the hotel, Kuching is celebrated as one of Malaysia's finest food cities. The nearby waterfront and Main Bazaar area are dotted with hawker stalls, traditional coffee shops, and contemporary restaurants serving beloved local dishes such as Sarawak laksa, kolo mee, and ayam pansuh. Guests will find an abundance of dining options within a short walk of the hotel.

Why Stay at Hilton Kuching

Unrivalled waterfront location.

Few hotels in Kuching can match the position of Hilton Kuching, set directly on the Sarawak River with panoramic views from many of its guest rooms and public spaces. The hotel's location along the waterfront esplanade means that Kuching's most important cultural landmarks, shopping streets, and food precincts are all within a comfortable walking distance, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the city without relying on transport.

Recently renovated to the highest standards.

The comprehensive renovation has transformed every aspect of the hotel, from the guest rooms with their Borneo-inspired contemporary design to the revitalised pool deck and state-of-the-art event spaces. Guests benefit from modern furnishings, upgraded technology, and refreshed dining venues — all while the hotel retains its established reputation for warm, attentive Sarawakian hospitality.

Exceptional family-friendly facilities.

The introduction of Malaysia's first Hilton Kids Club sets Hilton Kuching apart as a destination for families travelling with children. Combined with the dedicated children's pool, the complimentary stay policy for children under 12, and the variety of family-friendly dining options, the hotel makes it genuinely easy for parents and children to enjoy their stay together.

Executive Lounge for business and premium travellers.

The refreshed Executive Lounge provides a sophisticated private retreat with sweeping river views, complimentary breakfast, all-day refreshments, and evening cocktails. For business travellers or guests who appreciate a quieter, more personalised experience, the Executive Lounge elevates the stay considerably and represents outstanding value when booked as part of an Executive Room or Suite.

A gateway to Borneo's natural wonders.

Kuching serves as the primary gateway to Sarawak's extraordinary national parks, wildlife centres, and indigenous longhouse communities. Hilton Kuching's experienced concierge team can arrange excursions to Bako National Park, Semenggoh Wildlife Centre, and the Sarawak Cultural Village, ensuring guests can explore Borneo's unique biodiversity and cultural heritage with ease.

Tips for Booking Hilton Kuching

Book early for peak seasons.

Kuching experiences higher visitor numbers during school holidays, major festivals such as the Rainforest World Music Festival (typically held in June or July), and the Gawai Dayak harvest festival in early June. Booking well in advance during these periods is strongly recommended to secure your preferred room category and the best available rates. For quieter stays and potentially lower rates, consider visiting between March and May or during September and October, when tourism is steadier and the hotel often has greater availability.

Consider an Executive Room for added value.

While the Guest Room and Deluxe Room categories offer excellent comfort, upgrading to an Executive Room unlocks access to the Executive Lounge with complimentary breakfast, all-day refreshments, and evening cocktails. For guests who would otherwise spend on breakfast and drinks separately, the Executive Room can represent surprisingly strong value — particularly for stays of two nights or more. When booking, it is worth comparing the total cost of a standard room plus meals against the Executive Room rate to determine the best option for your itinerary.

Request a river-view room.

The views of the Sarawak River from the upper floors of Hilton Kuching are truly spectacular, especially at sunrise and sunset. When making your reservation through Traveloka, note your preference for a river-facing room in the special requests section. While river-view allocation is subject to availability, making the request in advance significantly improves your chances of securing one of the hotel's most coveted vantage points.

Take advantage of family-friendly benefits.

Families travelling with children should note that children under 12 stay free when sharing an existing bed with a paying adult. Combine this with complimentary access to the Hilton Kids Club and the dedicated children's pool, and Hilton Kuching becomes a remarkably cost-effective option for families. When booking, confirm whether a rollaway bed or cot can be added to your chosen room type if your children require their own sleeping arrangements.

Arrive prepared for exploration.

Check-in at Hilton Kuching begins at 15:00, with check-out at 12:00. If you arrive early, the hotel offers luggage storage so you can begin exploring the waterfront and Main Bazaar immediately. The concierge team is particularly knowledgeable about local tours and can arrange day trips to Bako National Park or Semenggoh Wildlife Centre — booking these through the concierge on your arrival day ensures you have a full programme for the following morning, making the most of your time in Sarawak.

Used to stay in Pullman but decide to give Hilton a try. It was a mistake. Cost more but not worth the price. Check-in was smooth. Breakfast is good with wide selections. Breakfast service was alright. Not Hilton great. Stayed two nights and rubbish bin was not cleared and water was not top up. Have to request for service. WA was a good idea but general service is not up to Hilton standard.
