Labuan is the Pearl of Borneo and also is a Federal Territory of Malaysia. The name Labuan derives from the Malay word labuhan which means harbour. It comprises of one large and six smaller islands in East Malaysia. Labuan Ferry Terminal has serve Labuan and the routes includes Brunei, Miri, Kota Kinabalu and Menumbok and expect to last for another 20 years. Air Asia and Malaysian Airlines has flights to Labuan from Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu and Miri. From there, you can rent a car or take a taxi to Labuan Ferry terminal which renting a car can cost around RM70 per day. Alternatively, ferry services run between Labuan and Kota Kinabalu (Sabah), Menumbok (Sabah), Lawas (Sarawak), Sipitang (Sabah), Limbang (Sarawak) and Bandar Seri Begawan (Brunei).

Pulau Labuan is surrounded by six smaller islands namely Pulau Kuraman, Pulau Daat, Pulau Rusukan Besar, Pulau Rusukan Kecil, Pulau Papan and Pulau Burong. There are two main water villages on Labuan which are Kampung Bebuloh and Kampung Patau-Patau. There are wooden houses and some concrete structures are built on wooden walkways. This villages have mosques, shops, schools and other facilities and homestay accommodation is available at Patau-Patau. No boat is needed to get in to the village and it is accessible by road until the parking areas near the entrance. You can then choose to walk around the village on the wooden bridge or steel concrete walkways.
