The construction of the mosque began on 9 June 1980, controlled by the state government through Sabah Islamic Council (MUIS). However, the construction was suspended for some technical reason. It was then taken over and executed back on 16 April 1984 under the administration of the federal government right after the Federal Territory Labuan made the second after the Federal Territory Kuala Lumpur. Finally, the ‘An Nur Jamek Mosque was successfully inaugurated on 1 February 1988, in conjunction with the celebration of the Federal Territory Day.
