Pacific Sutera offers a spectacular sea view and it is a place that gives you a sense of tranquility if you wish to get away from the city. Buffet spread at Cafe Boleh is of great variety and good quality. Staff is courteous and helpful. The only drawback is that the beach is too small and was a bit disappointing. Nevertheless, it is a very clean and well maintained beach. I will stay at Pacific Sutera again if given the opportunity to visit KK.

Overview of The Pacific Sutera Hotel

The Pacific Sutera Hotel

is a distinguished 5-star property nestled within the prestigious Sutera Harbour resort complex in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Commanding a prime waterfront position along Sutera Harbour Boulevard, this 500-room hotel delivers an impressive blend of modern luxury and tropical grandeur, set against the backdrop of the South China Sea and the distant silhouette of the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park islands. Whether you are visiting Sabah for its legendary natural wonders, planning a business trip, or simply seeking a seaside retreat,

The Pacific Sutera Hotel Kota Kinabalu

ranks among the finest accommodation choices in the state capital.

What sets

Pacific Sutera

apart from other 5-star hotels in the city is its sheer breadth of facilities. The property forms one half of the Sutera Harbour resort — a sprawling integrated development that encompasses a 27-hole championship golf course designed by Graham Marsh, a 104-berth marina, a private beach, and an extensive selection of dining and recreation venues. Guests checking in at

The Pacific Sutera Hotel

gain access to this entire ecosystem, making it feel less like a city hotel and more like a self-contained resort destination. The standard check-in time is 3:00 PM and check-out is at 12:00 PM (noon), giving travellers a comfortable window to settle in or explore before departure.

Service at

Pacific Sutera

is attentive yet unhurried, reflecting the relaxed pace of life in Malaysian Borneo. A 24-hour front desk and dedicated concierge team assist with everything from island-hopping arrangements to airport transfers, while the warm hospitality of the Sabahan staff consistently earns praise from returning guests. From the moment you step into the spacious lobby — alive with natural light and views of the harbour — it becomes clear that this is a hotel built around the experience of its surroundings.

Room Types at The Pacific Sutera Hotel

With 500 rooms and suites spread across its towers,

The Pacific Sutera Hotel Kota Kinabalu

offers a well-considered range of accommodation categories to suit couples, families, and business travellers alike. Every room is fitted with air conditioning, a flat-screen satellite television, an electric kettle, a minibar, and complimentary WiFi. Private bathrooms come equipped with a bathtub, a separate rain shower, and premium toiletries. Below is a closer look at each room type.

Deluxe Room

The Deluxe Room at

Pacific Sutera

measures a generous 33 square metres and serves as the hotel's signature entry-level category — though there is nothing basic about it. Furnished with either a king-size bed or twin beds, the room accommodates up to four guests comfortably. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame sweeping views of the resort's undulating golf course, flooding the space with natural light during the day. A work desk, an in-room safe, and ample wardrobe space make it equally practical for leisure and business stays. The Deluxe Room is an excellent choice for travellers who value comfort and space without the premium of a sea-facing position.

Superior Room

The Superior Room shares the same 33-square-metre footprint as the Deluxe category but introduces refined design touches and enhanced amenities that elevate the overall experience. Available with a king-size bed or twin-sharing configuration, this room type also accommodates up to four guests. Décor is contemporary and elegant, combining warm timber accents with neutral tones that create a calming retreat. Views overlook the golf course and lush resort landscaping, offering a sense of tranquillity that belies the hotel's proximity to central Kota Kinabalu. Guests in the Superior Room enjoy the same comprehensive in-room amenities — satellite television, minibar, kettle, and well-appointed bathroom — presented with a slightly elevated finish.

Sea View Room

For many visitors, the Sea View Room is the defining experience at

The Pacific Sutera Hotel

. Also set within a 33-square-metre layout with king or twin bed options, this category faces the South China Sea, delivering some of the most breathtaking vistas available from any hotel room in Kota Kinabalu. Sunsets here are spectacular — the sky over the Tunku Abdul Rahman islands shifts through vivid shades of amber and crimson, all visible from the comfort of your room. The Sea View Room accommodates up to four guests and includes the full complement of five-star amenities. If your budget allows, upgrading to this view category is highly recommended for the sheer visual drama it provides.

Club Room

The Club Room at

Pacific Sutera

is designed for guests who appreciate exclusive privileges and personalised service. In addition to the refined furnishings and spacious layout found in the hotel's standard categories, Club Room guests typically enjoy access to a private lounge offering complimentary refreshments, evening canapés, and a quieter environment for relaxation or informal meetings. The room itself features a king-size or twin-bed arrangement, premium bedding, and upgraded bathroom amenities. With a maximum occupancy of four guests, the Club Room is particularly well-suited to business travellers or couples celebrating a special occasion who want that extra layer of attention throughout their stay.

Suite

The suites at

The Pacific Sutera Hotel Kota Kinabalu

represent the pinnacle of the property's accommodation offering. The Junior Suite spans an impressive 83 square metres and features a separate living area alongside a king-size bedroom, making it ideal for guests who desire room to spread out. For those seeking even greater space, the Executive Suite extends to 105 square metres with generous living and dining zones suited to both entertaining and relaxation. At the top of the range, the Presidential Suite commands panoramic views of the South China Sea and the marina, with luxurious contemporary interiors that are unrivalled in Kota Kinabalu. All suites accommodate up to four guests and include premium amenities befitting a world-class resort.

Facilities and Amenities

The Pacific Sutera Hotel

offers a comprehensive suite of facilities that few properties in Kota Kinabalu can match. The centrepiece for many guests is the large outdoor swimming pool, which stretches alongside the resort grounds and is complemented by a poolside bar serving chilled drinks and light snacks throughout the day. Sun loungers line the deck, and the pool area enjoys direct sightlines to the sea — making it a favourite spot for leisurely afternoons.

Fitness enthusiasts will find a fully equipped gym and fitness centre on site, complete with modern cardio machines, free weights, and regular yoga classes. For pampering and recovery, the Chavana Spa provides a menu of traditional and contemporary treatments, including Balinese massage, body scrubs, and aromatherapy sessions, all delivered in serene treatment rooms designed to melt away travel fatigue.

Recreation extends well beyond the pool and spa. Guests have access to the resort's 27-hole championship golf course — one of the finest in Sabah — as well as a bowling alley, racquetball courts, and volleyball facilities. The 104-berth marina is a standout feature, offering a scenic waterfront promenade and serving as the departure point for island-hopping excursions to the nearby Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park. Families travelling with children will appreciate the dedicated children's play area, while complimentary high-speed WiFi is available throughout the hotel, ensuring guests remain connected at all times.

Additional conveniences include 24-hour reception, concierge services, luggage storage, and on-site parking. The hotel also offers meeting and event spaces, making

Pacific Sutera

a popular choice for corporate retreats and destination weddings in Kota Kinabalu.

Location and Getting There

The Pacific Sutera Hotel

occupies a coveted position within the Sutera Harbour development, located just minutes from the heart of Kota Kinabalu city centre. The hotel's address is Sutera Harbour Boulevard, 88100 Kota Kinabalu, Sabah — an easily recognisable landmark for taxi drivers and ride-hailing services alike.

Kota Kinabalu International Airport (BKI), the main gateway to Sabah, lies approximately 5 kilometres from the hotel. The drive takes around 10 to 15 minutes in normal traffic conditions, making

The Pacific Sutera Hotel Kota Kinabalu

one of the most conveniently located 5-star options for arriving travellers. A metered taxi from the airport costs from approximately RM 30 to RM 40, while ride-hailing apps such as Grab typically offer comparable fares. The hotel can also arrange private airport transfers upon request.

Despite its resort-like seclusion, the hotel is well connected to the city's key attractions. The Kota Kinabalu Esplanade and waterfront area are roughly 2 kilometres away, reachable by a short drive or a scenic 20-minute walk. The Sabah State Mosque, one of the city's most impressive architectural landmarks, is located approximately 1.5 kilometres from the hotel. Jesselton Point Ferry Terminal — the departure point for boats to the islands of the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park — is around 3 kilometres away. For shopping and local cuisine, Imago Shopping Mall, Suria Sabah, and the famous Kota Kinabalu Night Market are all within a 10-minute drive. The Sabah State Museum, which houses fascinating exhibits on Borneo's cultural and natural heritage, is also a short journey from the property.

Dining at The Pacific Sutera Hotel

Guests at

The Pacific Sutera Hotel

are treated to a diverse selection of on-site dining venues, each offering a distinct culinary experience. Whether you crave local Sabahan flavours, international comfort food, or a sunset cocktail high above the city, the hotel's restaurants and bars have you covered.

Café Boleh

is the hotel's flagship all-day dining restaurant, serving a generous buffet breakfast each morning alongside à la carte options for lunch and dinner. The menu spans international favourites and beloved Malaysian specialities — expect everything from nasi lemak and laksa to Western grills and fresh salads. Café Boleh's relaxed atmosphere and varied offering make it particularly popular with families and guests who prefer the convenience of dining without leaving the resort.

Silk Garden

caters to guests seeking refined Chinese cuisine. Specialising in Cantonese and regional Chinese dishes with an emphasis on fresh, locally sourced seafood, Silk Garden is an excellent venue for celebratory dinners and family gatherings. The restaurant's elegant interior and attentive service complement a menu that balances traditional recipes with modern presentation.

Breeze Restaurant

offers a more casual, open-air dining experience right by the beachfront. With fresh flavours, relaxed seafront seating, and uninterrupted sunset views, this venue captures the laid-back spirit of coastal Sabah. It is an ideal spot for a leisurely lunch or an early evening meal as the sun dips below the horizon.

Horizons Sky Bar and Cigar Lounge

, perched on the 12th floor, is the hotel's most atmospheric venue. Offering panoramic views of Kota Kinabalu's skyline and the South China Sea, this rooftop bar serves expertly crafted cocktails, premium spirits, and a curated selection of fine cigars. Watching the sunset from Horizons has become something of a ritual for guests at

Pacific Sutera

, and it is easy to understand why.

The

Lobby Lounge

provides a comfortable setting for light bites, afternoon tea, and an extensive drinks menu, while the

Pool Bar

keeps swimmers and sunbathers refreshed with cold beverages and snacks throughout the day. Beyond the hotel grounds, Kota Kinabalu's vibrant food scene — including the renowned night market and numerous seafood restaurants along the waterfront — is easily accessible for guests keen to explore local dining.

Why Stay at The Pacific Sutera Hotel

Unmatched waterfront setting.

Few hotels in Kota Kinabalu can rival the location of

The Pacific Sutera Hotel

. Situated directly on the South China Sea waterfront with views stretching to the islands of the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park, the hotel offers a genuine resort experience without sacrificing city accessibility. The sunsets alone are worth the stay.

All-in-one resort facilities.

From a 27-hole championship golf course and a full-service marina to a spa, bowling alley, swimming pool, and private beach,

Pacific Sutera

provides enough on-site activities to fill an entire holiday. Guests rarely need to leave the resort grounds unless they choose to, making it ideal for families and those seeking a stress-free break.

Exceptional dining variety.

With multiple restaurants and bars on the property — ranging from the international buffet at Café Boleh to the rooftop elegance of Horizons Sky Bar — guests enjoy genuine culinary diversity without having to venture out. This is a significant advantage for travellers who value convenience alongside quality.

Proximity to Sabah's top attractions.

Despite its resort atmosphere, the hotel is just 10 minutes from the airport and a short drive from island-hopping terminals, cultural landmarks, and the city's best markets. This combination of seclusion and connectivity is a compelling reason to choose

The Pacific Sutera Hotel Kota Kinabalu

as your base for exploring Sabah.

Ideal for every type of traveller.

Whether you are a couple on a romantic getaway, a family with young children, a golfer chasing the perfect round, or a business traveller attending a conference, the hotel's breadth of room types and facilities ensures there is something tailored to your needs. The 500-room inventory also means availability is generally good, even during peak seasons.

Tips for Booking The Pacific Sutera Hotel

Book early for sea-facing rooms.

The Sea View Room category is consistently the most requested room type at

Pacific Sutera

, particularly during school holidays and festive periods such as Hari Raya, Chinese New Year, and the year-end Christmas season. If a sea view is important to you, aim to book at least four to six weeks in advance to secure your preferred dates.

Consider midweek stays for better value.

Like most resort-style hotels in Sabah, rates at

The Pacific Sutera Hotel

tend to be more favourable from Sunday through Thursday compared to weekend stays. Midweek bookings can offer noticeably lower rates for the same room categories, freeing up budget for spa treatments, golf rounds, or island tours.

Request a higher floor.

When making your reservation, it is worth adding a note requesting a higher-floor room, especially in the Sea View and Club Room categories. Higher floors at

The Pacific Sutera Hotel Kota Kinabalu

deliver more expansive views and tend to be quieter, enhancing the overall experience at no additional cost — though such requests are subject to availability upon check-in.

Take advantage of package deals.

The hotel frequently offers bundled packages that combine accommodation with spa credits, golf green fees, or island-hopping excursions. These packages often represent significantly better value than booking each element separately. Check the Traveloka app or website for current promotions before finalising your reservation.

Arrive before sunset.

If you are checking in on your first day, try to arrive in time for the 3:00 PM check-in so you can enjoy the sunset from Horizons Sky Bar or the Breeze Restaurant beachfront. Kota Kinabalu is renowned worldwide for its sunsets, and experiencing one on your first evening at the hotel sets the tone for a memorable stay.

Plan your airport transfer in advance.

While taxis and Grab rides from Kota Kinabalu International Airport are readily available, pre-arranging a transfer through the hotel or via your Traveloka booking ensures a smooth arrival, particularly if you are landing late in the evening. The journey takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes, so you will be poolside or at the bar before you know it.

I think it is inconsistent with quality service. For example, one staff at the counter worked hard to accommodate my request to extend my stay three times. During these times, someone knocked on my door and informed me that I was supposed to check out even though the process to extend my stay had already been completed.

Since I was accompanying my husband on a business trip, I spent a lot of time in the room. There were no English movie channels on the TV. But the Fitness centre was good. Nice place to walk around the hotel also. I had to ask the room service staff for replenishments to the coffee and tea. And the electricity kept on going off. I had to call the maintenance staff several times. The lift was open to anyone walking in. No need to flash your room key. That was very unsafe.

Fast check in and out process. Beautiful views from every spot. Very nice room service. Breakfast is average because the variety of food is below expectation. Room make up service is average. They need to ventilate more the rooms and use the vacuum for the carpets. Horizons Bar is really noisy. The best of the hotel is its pool and the direct connection with Magelan hotel as you can use both facilities. Overall is nice for families with little kids.

Nice view. Facing the ocean. The service is inconsistent, you will get a very good service one day and a very bad one the next day from hotel and on site restaurant employees.

Amazing experience with the frontdesk. Thank you for the upgrade. The room still maintain the old style design. Without the usb port.
