The rooms are newly renovated and it’s great. The staff are very friendly and delightful. The location is the best location. The only issue is the stairs and that’s pretty standard in Amsterdam I guess.

Hotel van Gelder has a nice location, clean hotel, they have a nice comfy room! It's just be careful with the stairs, they dont have lift so when you have heavy luggage or bulky luggages its going to be a little tough. Hotel van Gelder's stairs are a little steep and small, I have a US size 9 women shoes I have to angle my foot on its side. If you are a senior, its going to be tough with the stairs. But overall, amazing and beautiful place. Will book the same hotel when I get the chance to get back st Amsterdam!

The room was spacious and very clean. The staff was very helpful. Only complaint, which is out of their control, the is no elevator. It was a one stoy walk up to get to check in and two more stories to get to the room. I didn't see that listed on the site, and it was a bit of a surprise.

Hotel van Gelder has a nice location, clean hotel, they have a nice comfy room! The staff was courteous and friendly. They went out of their way to help us with every question and need that arose. The lounge area provided a great space for game-playing as well as offering an array of games and books.

Overall, things such as cleanliness, staff and quality was fine, no issues there. Even then, it was very minimal, even for the Dutch. Where my review severely drops stars is logistics and terms. There were quite a few make-or-break terms/conditions that were not disclosed to me until after a room was allotted and payment accepted. Upon asking for clarification, the information was listed nowhere on third party listings, direct, or in person. Deeply disappointed by this, certainly will not return nor recommend. There are places to stay within the same price range and locations that are 2x-3x better. Out of the dozens of stays I’ve had in Amsterdam alone, this was the worst value, and most deceptive.

This property is very convenient to the train station but there is no elevator going up at all. So it’s not recommended to older travellers with heavy luggages. This hotel is only good for light travelers with strong knees to go up the steep stairs. The receptionist when we checked in named Anooska has an attitude not suitable for customer oriented job like what she’s doing. She can tell us in a nice way but she told us in a sarcastic and rude way but on our checked out the guy in the reception was very helpful to carry our luggages down without being asked.

The up side is being very close to the Centrall station. The downside is that ** is generous because the rooms are spartan. The stairs are horrific!

The top floor has just been redecorated. Lots of stairs to the top floor so if you have full size luggage take caution! We just had carry on so it made it just fine. Lovely staff!
