More about hotels in Hanoi

Hanoi is a popular location for those visiting Vietnam. Being the largest city in Vietnam (over 3,000 square-kilometres and a population of over seven million), it has an incredibly long and rich history; the invasion of the Japanese and the Vietnam War are a significant past of this rich city. With centuries of arts and culture, alongside its historical events, Hanoi is a busy city with many stories to tell.

How to Get There

The fastest and most efficient way to get to Hanoi is by flight. A direct flight by plane to Noi Bai International Airport (located 45 kilometres away from the city centre) is available from both Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2). It will take approximately close to three hours of flight time to reach Hanoi. You will find the usual airlines that will take you there, such as AirAsia, Malaysia Airlines (MAS), Vietnam Airlines, as well as VietJet.

Public Transportation Available

When you first land at Noi Bai International Airport, you will want to source transportation into the city as it is located about 45 kilometres away. There are many different transportation methods to get into the city: You can take a bus, a taxi, a car, a shuttle, or even a town car. Of course, a bus would be the most affordable, but if you must have some privacy and comfort, a taxi or a car will do the job too.

Within the city itself, a common mode of transportation is the motorcycle taxi - essentially a taxi service using motorcycles. They are an affordable and fast way to get around the city, as you will be able to avoid most traffic jams. If you want it the slightly traditional way, you can take trishaws (called cyclo), which are slightly more comfortable at a slightly higher price.

There are public buses around the city as well, but they are generally more suitable for longer distances within the city and connecting to the outskirts. The local buses in red, white, and yellow colours traverse the city well; they will take you to most major tourist attractions and do not cost too much.

Tourist Attractions

Being a country filled with a long and rich history, you will want to explore the historical and cultural aspects of the country.

Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum

The mausoleum lets you understand the historical events that made Vietnam, especially about Ho Chi Minh, one of the key figures in liberating Vietnam. You can find his body laid to rest in a glass case in the mausoleum, along with many facts and information about his historic actions. The mausoleum is located at the Ba Dinh area of Hanoi.

Hanoi Opera House

If you want to experience the heritage of Vietnam, then the Hanoi Opera House will do just that for you. Its Parisian design brings to mind the century-old history of Vietnam and is home to Vietnamese opera and musicals. It was originally built in 1911, making it over a century old.

Ba Vi National Park

Located about 50 kilometres away from Hanoi city, this forest reserve is well known for its three mountain peaks that literally touch the clouds. It is an excellent getaway from the busy streets of the city and for getting in touch with nature. Part of its charm is its natural hot springs and the temple located at the mountain top.

Where to Stay

Hotels

If you want to stay within the city at excellent comfort levels, you are likely to prefer the Mayflower Hotel. This 4-star accommodation is located at Hoan Kiem District, located close to the Thong Nhat Park and Zoo (making it ideal for families with children). You can also opt for the Church Legend Hotel Hanoi with its amazing 5-star facilities and ease of access to the city’s public transportation.

Resorts

Hanoi is not short of amazing resorts either. If you want to escape the bustling city streets and prefer to spend time at the beach, you should check out Cat Ba Island Resort & Spa. If you want a resort with a more historical look to it, give FLC Luxury Resort Vinh Phuc a look - it is very popular and is famous for its colonial-style decor and premium facilities.

Hostels

Affordable and cozy hostels are part of what makes Hanoi appealing to a lot of tourists. These affordable and convenient accommodations make it suitable for those travelling in large groups. There are fun themed hostels such as Daisy Hostels and also international chains such as the Ibiz City Hostel to choose from. These places offer strategic locations and excellent facilities.
