Returned a week ago from the Westin and although the hotel is one of my favorite with the snorkeling off the beach and a wonderful place to relax we noticed the quality of the food has gone downhill over the years. There were a few nights that only a handful of people ate at the restaurants on the property which even for off season was noticeable. The shower in our room flooded terribly and it took until the 3rd day to be moved. The cleaning staff the waiters and bartenders are great and work hard to take care of you. Drinks are of decent quality but like some food you have to pay for top shelf liquor. For the price it’s definitely worth it but if not kept on top of things I fear the ratings are going to continue to decline and really hate to see that. This place had the highest ratings the first few years it was open.

Property -Beautiful Beach - The ocean is very nice but in certain areas several of my friends and I hurt our toes on rocks. MUST have swim shoes. Gift shop sells them for $40 US dollars per pair. They are cheap. Bought two and the sand kept coming into them and the strap broke on one pair the second day. We left them behind at the room. Mosquitos - Terrible . Bring plenty of off and bug bite spray The Pool - nice! Ceviche, sliders and waffle fries are great. Everything else is sub par. Hotel room - We had a “Cabana” room 132. (There are only 2). Location is perfect! (Worn) Next to pool and beach but small bugs were all over the room. Can’t leave food over night. Makes worse all in bed. But the location of the room makes for way to much noise. Constant birds, doors from the surrounding areas opening and closing. Difficult to sleep every night. Water also leaked from from roof and front door. We asked for extra towels and turn down service daily. Didn’t get it. 1 night they dropped towels off and left. That’s turn down. one night we had to wait “2 hours” for wash clothes because they had to do laundry. Once asked for wash clothes. They told us we have to wait until the AM because housekeeping went home. Housekeeping is TERRIBLE! Room never cleaned properly. Hair left in shower. Food left outside the room. Half bottle of water in room upon arrival. MGMT tried but struggled too. If check out is 11am all inclusive is over for you at 11am. Can’t get a bottle of water

Food always took a long time to get, came out cold and very bland. Had the all-inclusive package maybe that was the reason. Bought a bottle of wine for dinner one night, got a call on the phone when my wife and I were in bed saying I had to pay cash. That night, and the server was coming up to the room. Went down to the desk asked for a hold for charged room account. Hotel put $577.81 on hold on credit card. Paid off account at check out, hotel still kept $577.81. 10 days later and calling hotel 3 times still will not release money. Worst hotel experience in my life, I'm 63 years old.

Positives: 1. beach front property, with room’s balcony facing the beach 2. All-inclusive option 3. friendly wait staff 4. Delicious breakfasts, beef dishes, some appetizers, & some desserts 5. Great selections of alcoholic & non-alcoholic drinks. 6. 24-hour spacious gym with adequate equipments for complete workouts. Negatives: 1. a-la-carte dining only, most of the time took 40-45 minutes just to get the food 2. No consistent flag updates on the ocean condition. We had a scary windy storm one day & really rough water, but flag was yellow!! 3. dive-shop water sports was non-existent, they kept yellow flag on rough 3 days including during a scary storm, but red flags on last 2 days perfect days of no wind, no wave. The staff at dive shops just said: “cancel, maybe tomorrow”. 4. Absolutely no on-site activities, other than (small) kids club. 5. Location is far from any attractions or markets 6. Bland pasta & fish dishes. 7. Although we paid for all-inclusive, taking food out of the restaurants or to-go was discouraged. 8. No grab-and-go snacks, you’d have to actually order and eat them at the restaurants or get room service for additional fees. One of the main reasons we booked this one was because of the complimentary kayaks & paddle boards, but we were denied using them on 2 perfect super calm days!! Advertisement is misleading!!

Save yourself from my experience. Read for a full experience review: Beautiful location and views, but service and management are seriously lacking. Here’s the reality: • Beach & bugs: Sand flies everywhere, mosquitos swarm at night, no fans, no bug spray sold at the shop. My legs and back are torn up from sand fly bites. We’ve never been to a beach that infested before. I have scars a week later. • Service: Staff mostly stand around chatting instead of helping. Several times we had to walk down to the street to hail a taxi because there was no bell hop working. Westins are known for their level of care - not this place. • Towels: Charged $20 for “dirty” towels. I asked for proof and they provided a generic picture of a towel used by a woman 10 shades darker than me. I am very fair skinned and this picture they sent is no where close to my tone. The housekeeper is either very mistaken on room numbers or they do this repeatedly using the same photo. • Noisy rooms & housekeepers: You can hear everything from neighbors. Housekeeping cleans with music blasting — impossible to rest when they are on your floor. • Food & dining: They will not allow you to order drinks without ordering very expensive food. They say it’s law, no one else did this to us. Just something to be aware of. • Pricing issues: Bartender offered 2-for-1 mojitos — ended up charging $18. $18 for 2/1 special is crazy work.
