The capital of Japan is elaborate, exciting and most definitely a unique one. If you’re pressed for time in this bustling city, don’t fret! Tokyo is separated into many districts but if you allocate one area per day you can make the most of your trip. If you have at least four full days in Tokyo, be sure to check out these areas:

Shibuya is known to attract the younger crowd of Tokyoites due to the huge and popular shopping districts, Harajuku and Omotesando. Watch the busiest crossing in the world before crossing it yourself! The “scramble crossing” breaks into five ways under the giant video screens. You can access this easily from the Hachiko exit. Don’t forget to snap a picture with the Hachiko statue! If you’re a fan of anime, manga and fashion, you will not be disappointed as shops are abundant. The famous Meiji Shrine and Yoyogi Park is easily accessible from Shibuya.

Known as the metropolis’ second centre, this area is home to the world’s busiest railway complex. This railway complex connects to about anywhere - even out of Tokyo! Shinjuku is a crowd pleaser as it is a hub for business, commercial and entertainment. Expect sky scrapers, luxury hotels, high end shopping, a variety of restaurants and of course, Tokyo’s largest red light district - Kabukicho. It’s not entirely a concrete jungle though, one of the top attractions that you should not miss is the Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden in the heart of the city!

If you’ve seen enough of futuristic skyscrapers and modern cities, perhaps it’s time to make a trip to Old Tokyo. Experience the Japanese culture here by simply watching a sumo wrestling show in Ryōgoku or paying a visit to the Edo-Tokyo Museum. If you’re in Tokyo during the cherry blossom season, the Sumida river will be lined with breathtaking views of blooming cherry blossom trees.

What’s a trip to Japan without a visit to its highest mountain? If you plan to hike Mount Fuji be sure to go during the official hiking season which is from July to August, as anything outside this time is not recommended due to unfavorable weather conditions. For those who still want to get up close and enjoy the amazing views, there are simple trails at the bottom of the mountain. The Fuji Five Lakes are also a good option for photo taking.
