Vesak Day, alternatively known as Vesakha or Buddha Purnima, is a celebration of the birth, enlightenment, and arrival of Siddharta Gautama, the Buddha, into Nirvana. This religious event is celebrated by Buddhists around the world, including in Singapore.

This year, In Singapore, Vesak Day is held on the 22nd of May 2024 and it’s been a public holiday since World War II. Tips on Spending Vesak Day

While preparing what to celebrate and what to avoid to appreciate Buddha’s preaching, you can check out these several useful tips for your Vesak Day preparation:

Many Buddhists wonder if they can drink during the remarkable day. The answer, you are advised not to drink alcohol during Vesak. It’s highly recommended that you serve vegetarian food as it represents honour to all living creatures.
You may also avoid serving and eating meat during Vesak Day. Many Buddhist communities recommend not killing anything for this celebration.
You can do charity work and other good deeds as this means a struggle to erase all the bad karma in your life.
Do visit a temple respectfully to soak in the celebration, but don't disturb the peaceful atmosphere of temples.
Don't get caught up in the festivities, it’s the day when you can learn something meaningful about Buddhism.
