Soekarno Hatta Airport (CGK), often simply called Jakarta Airport, is Indonesia's busiest airport and the country's main international gateway. Despite serving the capital, it is not inside Jakarta itself. It lies in Benda district, Tangerang City, in Banten province, on the edge of Cengkareng in West Jakarta, about 17 to 20 km west-northwest of central Jakarta. Locals shorten the name to Soetta. There are three passenger terminals: Terminal 1 for domestic flights, and Terminal 2 and Terminal 3, which both handle domestic and international flights. Jakarta's second airport, Halim Perdanakusuma (HLP) in East Jakarta, is a separate airport, so check which one your ticket names.
The airport is run by InJourney Airports (PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia), the state-owned airport group. Terminals 1 and 2 were designed by the French architect Paul Andreu, with pavilion-style buildings and tropical gardens that earned Soekarno Hatta the nickname 'airport in a garden'. This guide covers which airline uses which terminal, how to get into Jakarta, parking, facilities and what to expect when you fly in from Singapore or elsewhere.
CGK is the IATA code for Soekarno Hatta International Airport, and its ICAO code is WIII. In Indonesian the airport is Bandar Udara Internasional Soekarno-Hatta. You will also see it written as SHIA or Soetta, and many travellers just say Jakarta Airport. When a booking shows Jakarta, it may mean either CGK or Halim (HLP), so read the airport code before you plan your ride.
The three terminals at CGK are spread out, so arriving at the wrong one costs time. The airline lists below come from the airport operator's directory. The operator's own FAQ does not always agree with that directory, and assignments change, so check the terminal on your e-ticket before you leave.
Terminal 1 handles domestic flights and is split into sections, including 1A and 1B. The Lion Air group's domestic services operate here alongside other Indonesian carriers.
Terminal 2 handles both domestic and international flights and serves many low-cost carriers. Scoot, the AirAsia group and Batik Air fly from here, and Lion Air's international flights use this terminal too.
Terminal 3 is where most full-service international carriers operate at Soekarno Hatta. Garuda Indonesia flies from Terminal 3, as does Singapore Airlines.
A free Skytrain, known locally as Kalayang, runs on the landside and links all three terminals with the Airport Railway Station. At Terminal 1 you board at the Skytrain Shelter in the 1B parking area. At Terminal 3 the platform is on the Mezzanine Floor. The Skytrain runs through the day into the late evening.
Free shuttle buses also run between the terminals. At Terminal 1 they stop in the departure areas of 1A and 1B. Both the Skytrain and the shuttle run on the landside, so allow a generous gap if you are connecting between terminals.
Road traffic around Jakarta is heavy and hard to predict, so the train is the most reliable choice when timing matters. Fares are shown at the counter, the ticket machine or in the operator's app.
The Soekarno-Hatta Airport Rail Link, run by KAI Commuter, connects the airport with BNI City and Manggarai in central and south Jakarta. The train takes about 40 to 55 minutes. To reach the Airport Railway Station, take the Skytrain: it is the first stop from Terminal 1 and the second from Terminal 3.
Airport buses, including DAMRI, Transjakarta airport routes and Primajasa, link the airport with Jakarta and nearby cities. At Terminal 1, the bus shelters are in the 1B arrival area. At Terminal 3, look for the bus ticket counters in the domestic arrival lobby. Journey times depend on traffic.
Taxis and app-based rides pick up from the arrival areas of each terminal. Travel time into the city varies widely with traffic, so allow plenty of margin at peak hours.
Each terminal has its own parking area. Regular daily parking, overnight parking and subscription parking are offered. Rates are set by the operator and can change, so check them on arrival or on the airport's own pages.
All three terminals share a similar set of services. Here they are, starting with what travellers ask about most.
Shops are in every terminal, both before and after security. Duty free is mainly in the international area of Terminal 3, with some in Terminal 2.
Restaurants, coffee shops and snack outlets operate in all three terminals. You will find them landside in the departure and check-in halls, and airside in the departure and boarding lounges, so you can eat before or after security.
Soekarno Hatta has pay-per-use and airline lounges. Blue Sky Premier operates in all three terminals, and the Saphire Premium Plaza Lounge is in Terminals 2 and 3. The Garuda Executive Lounge is on the mezzanine departure level of Terminal 3, and the Batik Air business class lounge is in Terminal 2. Access to an airline lounge depends on your ticket or membership.
All luggage storage is landside on the arrival side. Terminals 1 and 2 have lockers, and Terminal 3 has a left-luggage service in its domestic arrival hall.
Designated smoking areas are in all three terminals. In Terminal 2 they are in the departure halls and arrival lobbies, and in Terminal 3 they are near several boarding gates.
Massage chairs are available in the boarding lounges of every terminal. The operator's dedicated rest areas are currently marked as temporarily closed, so do not count on them for a long wait.
Gift, souvenir, handicraft and batik shops are found in all three terminals, which is handy for a last-minute present before you fly home.
Terminals 1 and 2 have prayer rooms (musholla) on both the departure and arrival sides. Mosques also serve all three terminals, including one at the Terminal 2 Umrah lounge and others in the Terminal 3 parking buildings.
Wifi is available 24 hours in the departure and arrival areas of all three terminals. Free charging stations are in the departure halls, boarding lounges and baggage claim areas.
ATMs are in all three terminals. Money changers are in Terminal 2, and in the international check-in and arrival halls of Terminal 3, useful if you need rupiah as soon as you land.
There is a shower room at Terminal 1 arrivals.
Lactation rooms are in all three terminals, family toilets in Terminals 1 and 3, and baby strollers are available in Terminal 1. Accessible toilets, priority lifts and seats, and drop-off and pick-up zones for passengers with disabilities are provided, with buggy assistance and a special-needs assistance desk in Terminal 3. Kids Zone play areas are currently marked as temporarily closed.
The operator advises arriving early to complete check-in and does not publish a fixed number of hours, so follow your airline's advice. Allow extra time for Jakarta traffic on the way to the airport. At Terminal 1, online check-in for domestic flights opens 12 hours before departure and closes 45 minutes before. For international flights it runs from 24 hours to 75 minutes before departure.
Check-in counters and information desks are listed as open 24 hours in all terminals. For international arrivals, you pass immigration and customs before reaching the arrival hall. Entry rules for Indonesia are set by the government, so check the official guidance for your passport before you travel.
Make sure you know whether your flight leaves from Terminal 1, 2 or 3 before setting off, particularly with Lion Air, which uses one terminal for domestic and another for international flights. For live departure and arrival information, check the Traveloka flight status page.
This page doubles as a flight planner for CGK. Fare cards show fares from Jakarta to popular destinations, and the flight schedule tables list upcoming departures and arrivals at Soekarno Hatta by date, with the airline and scheduled times. The tables are a selection, not a full timetable.
Choose a route, compare airlines and departure times across your dates, then note the terminal. Not ready to book? Set a Price Alert to hear when the fare moves. After booking, your e-ticket is sent by email and saved in the Traveloka app.
