Jakarta’s Soekarno–Hatta International Airport (CGK) is Indonesia’s main gateway – a round-the-clock hub linking travellers to the rest of the archipelago and the world. Sitting around 20 kilometres west of central Jakarta, it connects you to Bali’s beaches, Singapore’s hawker stalls, and Bangkok’s night markets, as well as quick domestic hops to Yogyakarta, Surabaya, and Medan. Whether you’re off for a city break in Asia, a surf trip across the islands, or a long-haul escape to Australia or Europe, cheap flights from Jakarta Airport make it easy to get moving.
Opened in 1985, Terminal 1 is the oldest part of Soekarno–Hatta International Airport and mainly handles domestic flights for airlines such as Lion Air, Super Air Jet, and Citilink. It has small cafés, souvenir stalls, and relaxed lounges with free Wi-Fi and charging points. The Skytrain links Terminal 1 to Terminals 2 and 3 in just a few minutes, making connections quick and easy.
Built in 1991, Terminal 2 serves both domestic and international flights, including several low-cost carriers. You’ll find duty-free shops, local eateries, and comfortable lounges like Saphire and Blue Sky Premier, plus free Wi-Fi and water refill stations. It connects directly to the Airport Rail Link and Skytrain, so getting between terminals or into the city is simple.
This is Soekarno–Hatta’s flagship terminal – bright, spacious, and modern. Opened in 2016, it’s home to international airways. Inside, you’ll find Indonesian art displays, capsule hotels, 24-hour cafés, and premium lounges like Plaza Premium. The Airport Rail Link runs directly from the terminal to central Jakarta in about 45 minutes, making it a smooth start (or finish) to your trip.
Soekarno–Hatta International Airport (CGK) sits about 25 kilometres west of central Jakarta, an easy run along the city’s main toll road when traffic’s on your side. The Airport Rail Link is usually the fastest bet – a direct ride from Manggarai Station in South Jakarta to the terminals in around 45 minutes.
Between flights, the Skytrain shuttles passengers free between Terminals 1, 2 and 3. DAMRI buses and private coaches also run from big Jakarta malls and hotels if you’d rather save a few rupiah than rush.
Need wheels? Grab, Gojek, and Blue Bird taxis operate 24/7 across Greater Jakarta, while private transfers or car hire make it simple if you’re heading to the airport with luggage or family in tow.
If you’re planning a trip from Jakarta and want to save on fares, aim for February to April or September to November. These shoulder months sit outside Indonesia’s big holiday rushes like Eid al-Fitr, Christmas, and New Year, meaning smaller crowds and better flight deals. The weather's warm year-round, so you’ll still catch plenty of sunshine wherever you’re headed.
Prices climb from June through August as locals and Aussies alike head off on mid-year getaways, and again in December and January when festive travel peaks. Want to stretch your budget further? Midweek departures (Tuesday to Thursday) often come out cheaper than weekend flights: a handy trick for nabbing a lower fare.
