• Qantas: Australia’s largest airline, with full-service offered on this route for all passengers and fare types.
• Virgin Australia: Offering a mid-range service with entertainment and frequent flyer points, but no baggage or meals served without adding them on for a fee.

Cheapest airline to fly from Melbourne to Bali

Generally, Jetstar will have the lowest fares between Melbourne and Bali. It's a budget airline meaning there's fewer things included, which keeps costs down.

If you're going to need a bit more baggage than a carry-on, we recommend comparing prices with a full-service airline like Qantas or Garuda. While you can add on baggage to your flight when you book, this can increase fares by up to $50 each way - or more.

Best airline to fly from Melbourne to Bali

The 2025 World Airline Awards has listed Qantas as the 14th best airline in the world, which is the highest ranked airline of the airlines flying direct between Melbourne and Bali. Following Qantas is Virgin Australia in 34th, Garuda Indonesia in 46th and Jetstar in 88th. (The rankings only show the top 100 airlines, and Batik is not on the list.)

Cheapest time to fly from Melbourne to Bali

Our data shows that April and May are generally the cheapest months to travel from Melbourne to Bali. However, there’s not a massive difference in price from month to month, so if those months don’t work for you, you shouldn’t need to double your budget. It’s best to avoid travel during Christmas, New Year’s and school holidays though. Prices soar over those peak periods.

Best time to book a flight to Bali

It's usually best to book international flights 3-6 months in advance, and Bali is no exception. We recommend keeping your eyes peeled for sales like EOFY, Black Friday and Boxing Day too as they usually serve up some of the best-priced flights all year.

In terms of what days to depart, generally, flight prices drop on Tuesdays and Wednesdays so this is the best time to book to get the lowest price.

Arriving at Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport

Bali has just one airport, so all flights will land at Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) in Denpasar. It’s toward the southern end of the island and closest to resort areas including Jimbaran, Kuta and Legian.

Getting to your accommodation is easiest with either a pre-booked private transfer, or a taxi or rideshare booked at the airport. Depending on where you’re heading, here’s how long you can expect the journey to be if you’re staying in other destinations in Bali:

• Amed: 120-150 minutes
• Candidasa: 90-120 minutes
• Legian: 15-25 minutes
• Nusa Dua: 20-30 minutes
• Sanur: 25-35 minutes
• Seminyak: 20-30 minutes
• Ubud: 60-90 minutes
• Uluwatu: 35-45 minutes

How early to arrive at Melbourne Airport to fly to Bali

As it’s an international flight, you’ll want to get to Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport at least three hours before departure to ensure you have enough time to check in, drop off your bags, go through security and clear customs. (International flights are currently not available from Avalon, so all direct flights to Bali will leave from Tullamarine.)

Visa requirements for Bali

Australians do require a visa to travel to Indonesia, and luckily the process is simple. You can either get a Visa on Arrival (VOA) upon landing in Denpasar, or sort it in advance. The line ups can get long for a VOA, so we recommend getting it ahead of time. We can help, too!
