Adelaide Airport (ADL) is the main passenger airport for Adelaide and South Australia. Opening hours and curfew at Adelaide Airport

The Adelaide Airport terminal opens at 3:15am and closes at 11:30pm every day. Taxis serve the terminal during those opening hours. Outside them, the building is closed, so plan your arrival and onward travel around that window.

A legislated curfew also applies from 11pm to 6am, under the Adelaide Airport Curfew Act. During the curfew, most take-offs and landings are restricted. Emergency aircraft, some small jets, propeller aircraft and freight flights may still operate, and other flights need a ministerial dispensation that is granted only in exceptional circumstances. Domestic and international departures

Because both kinds of flight share one building, the departure route is layered. Everyone first passes through domestic security. International passengers then continue downstairs to a separate International Screening and Border Control point before reaching the international departure area. International Screening opens 2 hours before departure, so time your walk downstairs with that in mind.

Getting to and from Adelaide Airport

Public bus (J1 and J2)

Adelaide Metro's J1 and J2 buses run directly to the Adelaide city centre. They leave from a bus stop on Sir Richard Williams Avenue, a 2 to 5 minute walk from the terminal. The bus suits travellers with light bags who are happy to walk to the stop.

Taxi

The taxi rank is on the western side of the pedestrian plaza outside the terminal. Taxis run while the terminal is open, from 3:15am to 11:30pm, and the drive to the city centre takes about 15 minutes.

Rideshare

The designated rideshare pick-up area is to the left of the Terminal Car Park, across the pedestrian lights. As with a taxi, the road trip to the city centre is about 15 minutes.

Car rental

Rental desks are on the ground floor next to baggage claim, and you collect your car from the ground level of the P1 Terminal Car Park. From there, the city centre is about 15 minutes away by road.

Parking at Adelaide Airport

The P1 Terminal Car Park is the closest option, with a covered walkway straight to check-in. P2 Outdoor Car Park is within walking distance, and P3 Long Term Car Park suits longer trips. Valet parking is available, and Meet & Greet parking in P1 lets someone hand over your car at the terminal.

Accessible parking bays are in P1 next to the lifts, and EV charging bays are on level 2 of P1. Rates depend on the car park and how long you stay, so check them on the airport's parking pages before you go.

Facilities at Adelaide Airport

The terminal is compact, and most shops and places to eat are after security. Here is what to expect, in the order travellers usually ask about.

Duty free shopping

Duty free is after International Screening, so it is only open to passengers on international flights. You can also order duty free online and collect it on the way out.

Terminal layout

All airline check-in desks are on level 2. Domestic arrivals disembark on level 2 and collect their bags on the ground floor. International arrivals disembark on level 1, clear Immigration and then collect bags on the ground floor, with International Arrivals on the northern side. The welcome desk is on the ground floor.

Lounges

Adelaide Airport has airline and pay-per-use lounges. On the international side, the Plaza Premium Lounge is on level 1 after International Screening. For domestic travellers, the Plaza Premium Domestic Lounge on level 2 is pay-per-use and takes walk-ins without pre-booking. Qantas has the Qantas Club and Domestic Business Lounge, and Virgin Australia has its Domestic Lounge, both airside near the gates.

Food and drink

The main shopping and dining precinct is after security. International passengers pass a food court on the way to International Screening, and there is a bar and cafe on the other side of it.

Luggage storage

SmarteCarte lockers are near the car rental offices on the ground floor of the multi-level car park.

Smoking areas

Smoking is not allowed inside the terminal. Designated smoking areas are on level 2 at both ends of the building and on the ground level at the southern end.

Currency exchange and ATMs

Travelex has a counter on the ground floor near International Arrivals and another on level 2 after security. ATMs are spread throughout the terminal.

Free Wi-Fi and charging

Adelaide Airport Free Wi-Fi covers the whole terminal. Charging stations are in the Plaza Premium lounges.

Showers

Showers are on the ground floor and in two spots on level 2, including one in the international departures area. Guests of the international Plaza Premium Lounge can also shower there.

Prayer rooms

A domestic prayer room is on level 2, and an international prayer room is after emigration, near the escalator and stairs.

Pharmacy and first aid

There is a pharmacy inside the terminal. Trained staff provide first aid, and AEDs are placed throughout the building.

Families and accessibility

The Customer Service team can help from the terminal entrance through to check-in. A dedicated disability drop-off and pick-up area is on Atura Circuit at the northern end. Sunflower Lanyards and sensory-friendly routes are available from the welcome desk.

The children's play area is under construction for now. In the meantime, families can look for activities in the specialty stores or visit the Vickers Vimy exhibition.

The Vickers Vimy

Look out for the Vickers Vimy on display in the terminal. It is the aircraft that Adelaide brothers Ross and Keith Smith flew from England to Australia, and it makes a good stop if you have time before boarding.

Tips for departing and arriving at Adelaide Airport

Adelaide Airport's general guideline is to arrive 2 to 3 hours before an international departure and at least 1 hour before a domestic one. Always check with your airline too, because its check-in cut-off is the one that counts.

With the terminal closed overnight and a curfew in place, an early start needs planning. The doors open at 3:15am, so there is no waiting inside the building beforehand. After a late arrival, make sure your transport is sorted, as taxis run only while the terminal is open.
