I’m very disappointed with my recent stay at the Richmond Hotel in Adelaide and feel compelled to share my experience. Firstly, the hotel website states that car parking is available. While this is technically true, what it doesn’t make clear is that the parking is actually a public car park and the free parking only applies for one visit. This is completely impractical for guests staying more than one night, and we were not informed of this at the time of booking. It created unnecessary inconvenience during our stay. The website also advertises that rooms include a minibar. In reality, this turned out to be nothing more than an empty fridge with a single bottle of tap water inside. This is quite misleading and certainly not what most people would reasonably expect when a hotel promotes a minibar. Unfortunately, the room itself was also far below what you would expect from a supposed 4-star hotel. It was not particularly clean and clearly in need of redecorating. The website describes the rooms as being “styled with natural tones and marbled bathrooms,” but this didn’t reflect the reality we experienced. The carpet was extremely worn and overall the room felt tired and poorly maintained. We were so shocked and disappointed by the standard of the accommodation that we actually chose not to return for the second night of our stay.

This entire stay was a nightmare. Staff is extremely unhelpful. Booking was almost cancelled at the last minute, I was told the room was unsold to another customer and the upon arrival it was held for us which I wouldn’t have otherwise known if I hadn’t arrived at the reception in person. Late check out was granted and then the details weren’t passed on so we were woken up. A arranged a cot and none was provided. The room smells of smoke and it filthy, nothing has been updated since the 90’s views on all sides look out to brick walls. Do yourself a favour and do not book this hotel.

Location is great, however rooms are dingy, dirty and ceiling leaked. Woke up to water dripping onto the carpet in a steady stream. To start with, the staff were great, friendly and helpful. We had accidentally booked the wrong dates but they helped us change them without affecting us financially. This is where the good side of the stay finished. Our room was freezing cold and the heating was not working (in the middle of winter). We couldnt get a change of room due to bookings so were given a couple of bar heaters but they still didnt help make the room any more comfortable. In the bathroom we never touched a cold water tap and the water was barely hot enough for a shower. The ceiling in the bathroom still had raw spak and plaster that hadnt been sanded back and painted. Walking around the corridors it was evident they dont get vacuumed often with paint flakes and dirt on the floor. On Saturday we went to the restaurant for a couple of drinks but wasnt able to as it was reserved for a function so we went to bar in basement only to have this shut at 6pm. Previously mentioned function had live music playing so loud we couldnt be comfy in our room or sleep. In the past we would confidently book at the Richmond and trust it would be a good stay, but over the last couple of years this trust and comfort has eroded and we will be looking elsewhere in the future as it feels its gradually going downhill.

The room was comfortable space wise. Beds were comfortable. But the shower was dirty with grime and mould. Dust was evident where the glasses and cups were kept. We were given another room straight away once we brought it to the attention of the receptionist. However a clean room/bathroom is expected from the get go. Accommodation was easily accessible to anyone passing by. The locks to our room were very outdated and no barrier for any random to access.

Great location for my corporate office that I was visiting. Check in was simple.

Unfortunately when we were there the Restaurant was not open on Sunday night. I do not know if this is normal . Also there were no information centres open in Adelaide on Sunday night.
