The Lighthorseman

Despite being very much an English pub facility the people were very friendly & helpful, the rooms were comfortable & well apportioned. The pubs position just a few meters away from the river walk into the city was a real bonus. It encouraged me to walk rather than rely on public transport, although this was frequent with a nearby bus stop, and I found lovely parts of the city that I may have missed otherwise. I would recommend this hotel to family & friends.

Stayed for one night, I couldn’t find fault, friendly staff, perfect room for one and to top it off the evening meal I had, was excellent. Highly recommend as a place to stay in York.

The hotel was good. The rooms had nice furniture and they were clean. The location was spot on for what we needed. Could walk into the city along the river. Bar is a typical old pub with fantastic features. Beer garden was really nice. Think the hotel is going through some updating and it’s needed but would stay again for sure

An absolutely lovely stay, friendly staff, clean and spacious room. Perfect location for a stroll along the river into the town centre. Would definitely stay again.

Hotel is rather central just outside the city walls, good location, pub is a typical old town pub, rooms are a bit dated and need a facelift and some TLC but cant complain about the price paid.

The location was Ok, quite close to the centre. Staff very friendly but lacking knowledge of simple facts like how to synchronise the TV as it didn't work when we checked in. Bed was quite comfy and room was quiet, considering we were on top of the pub and by the main road. Cleanliness very poor, the carpet was incredibly dirty and the brush toilet holder was in really poor condition, all rusty. This cost less than £5 to replace it Overall, if you are in a budget, the place is OK but it could certainly be improved by owners I can't comment on food and drinks as we didn't consume anything. There are amazing places in York centre where to have meals and drinks

Great location, pleasant walk into York from the hotel, good breakfast but you need to order it the night before. We spent three nights there, the bar was pleasant for drinks after walking back from York centre.

Know the pub from previous visits to York. Excellent chef who was unfortunately on holiday when I stayed.

Nice little pub. Reminded me of the Winchester on Shaun of the dead😂 room was spot on although on a bit of noisy road, didn’t bother me to much.. had a great crack with the lassy behind the bar.. slept well probs cause I was half soaked.. would return

I was looking for a reasonably priced place for an overnight stay for a work trip without spending over £100.00 on some of the "cheep hotel chains rooms". This little nugget was just what was needed, a nice comfy bed, ease of access, polite and friendly staff. When I asked for suggestions on where to eat as their kitchen was closed and it was spot on!

Well worth a stop, parking onsite is a huge benefit in York. The room was very clean and tidy and ensuite was not cramped and very clean.
