Hôtel AKENA Biarritz - Grande plage

Everything about this hotel was perfect. The staff was so accomodating and let me check in upon arrival, which was clutch since I took a red eye in that morning. The room was good size and clean. The room had AC but it also had a window that opened easily. I preferred the fresh air and only used the AC at night. Fasntastic location, a few minute walk to the beach. I’ll caveat that I wasn’t a huge fan of the breakfast. I paid for it the first day but ate in town the subsequent days.

Stylish reception, bar and breakfast area did not compensate for miniscule room provided. Less than 25cm gap at foot and side of bed meant I hit my head on the wall mounted TV twice and bashed my shins on the bed frame. No room for chair, desk or other room amenities shown in website photos - avoid room 404 - far too small for two adults.

Fine hotel

Chilled out hotel with great decor. Walking distance from beach and great restaurants as well as local supermarket. Lovely staff, comfortable rooms.

The staff super helpful and friendly. Sousana the best. Answered all my questions about the city. Has parking available for 25€ and only two blocks away from the beaches. Good location.

Breakfast was lovely and plentiful with freshly-squeezed orange juice. Room was very comfortable - we had asked for room on a low floor, which we got. All staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is just a short walk from the very sandy beach and the bay surfers enjoy. It's also a couple of hundred yards from the town centre, a nightclub and post office. We ate each evening at the Bistrot Angeluan at the end of nearby Rue de la Bergerie. The staff there were very friendly and helpful - especially Josephine who speaks excellent English which she self-taught.

Small but clean room, would recommend

The receptionist was exceptionally nice and accommodating. I mentioned I had a Zoom meeting shortly after I checked in and she offered a work area etc and was very nice thru out the stay, the room was very clean and the whole staff were excellent. I'll be back!

Allowed to check in super early which was much appreciated after a very early flight. Went straight to breakfast which was still on - great value and gorgeous. Proper orange juicer, boiled egg machine, fresh raspberries/blueberries & lovely pastries. No 11 bus from airport (€1.30) stops at St Charles le Marne stop just around the corner. You get back on for the airport at the stop just 1 min walk up street St Charles Victoria (one way system). 3 day bus ticket is just €8.60). Beach is end of street 3 minute walk. Shops are 10 min walk same direction then turn left. Room was small but fine. Good quality towels/toilet roll & rictuals shower gel/ shampoo & handwash. If you don't get room cleaned first day you get token for free soft drink/glass of wine - great value/idea. Windows opened fully which was great & air con heated room perfectly when needed (April stay). Sky News & BBC News on telly plus Netflix & ability to cast. Let us keep room on till 3pm last day for free as flight was later. Can't recommend hotel enough. Free sweets in jars in foyers and large umbrellas for use. Really friendly staff. On a quiet street with beautiful houses. Carrefour express & little bakery/chemist & pub just behind hotel, out front door & turn left, turn left just before bus stop opposite church. Walk up past Charlie's pub and swing left. Can't recommend enough! Get airport bus back & get Flix or Blabla car coach to San Sebastián from airport for day trip.

Clean and convenient

Very friendly helpful staff. Easy parking. Very centrally located. We liked the choice of not having the room serviced for one night and having a free drink at the bar instead.

All aspects were excellent.

The hotel is charming and located in an excellent part of town, with transit to the airport just outside the door. The rooms are modern and comfortable, and the hotel is very clean. The staff is lovely!! Silvie at the front desk was always warm, friendly and very helpful!!! There are nearby restaurants and a nice bakery, but the central part of town is just a short walk! The WiFi worked well. Don’t hesitate to stay here!

For One time in our way to San Sebastián was a really good Choice, it was really a good decisión tu stayed there

Being part of a 2,000 mile road trip we picked this hotel because it provided parking facilities for €20 per night. I was sent a pre-check in questionnaire which I duly filled in ahead of time, part of which was my request for a parking space close to reception as I have a painful back issue (slipped disc). However, upon arrival I was promptly told that there were no parking spaces available, despite the hotel offering spaces and my request for said parking. At no point prior to check in was I informed that there were no parking spaces available, instead I was told I could park in the pay and display areas around the hotel but these were prohibitively expensive and therefore out of the question. I was then left to try and find alternative parking elsewhere and ended up a twenty minute walk from the hotel. A poor show that tainted an otherwise excellent trip..

Room was clean and comfortable. Hotel is well located and easy to walk around the town or to the beach. Would recommend.
