No room fridge, no air conditions, poor restaurant service, unhelpful reception and concierge staff.

The communal areas are pleadant, with some dated elements, the rooms are dated, dont have aircon and only small windows, enough clothes hanging space but not for folded, small dated bathroom with shower over bath. The hotel is in a good location and staff were pleasant.

Staff were Snobbish.

Excellent hotel in an amazing location.

Stayed here many times but this time was frustrating. Couldn’t check in in the afternoon so came back after our event. 11:30 pm - front desk person told me I didn’t have a reservation… after looking through my emails frantically to try and find reservations- he finally found it. Then gave us our room key - we got up to the room with our luggage and door wouldn’t open. We tried repeatedly. Returned to the desk to ask for a key replacement and he says “oh I wrote down wrong number”. So at 11:30 at night we were trying to break into someone else’s room cause he wrote down the wrong number!! Then he gave us new room number and we went back up to find that one. Entered the room and it was 27 degrees. Window was open but it’s a minimal tilt window so no airflow. We looked all over to the thermostat and finally returned to the desk again to ask. The same man told us the thermostat was on the bathroom wall which it wasn’t … so he said he’d send maintenance to show us. A maintenance man showed up and told us there was no air conditioning in that room. He did unlock the window and bring us a second fan which was kind but front desk guy made for a poor experience. The room was hot and stuffy and made for an uncomfortable night. If you stay here- make you confirm your room has AC.

The hotel was ok for an affordable room in a central location but do not go during the summer during a heat wave. There is no aircon and the windows don’t open more than a crack. No cool air could come in as the windows only open at the top so no air could come down and into the room. Our room was an oven. They provided one fan that was new/clean and one in the closet that was covered in dust. We needed both to circulate air for our family of 4. The best part was the restaurant/bar staff as they were really helpful in allowing us to keep a bucket of ice in our room.

Great location and the staff was great. No AC in the room so the room on the 3rd floor was HOT. They did give me fan but only way to get air flow was to prop the door open. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. If you don’t mind a toasty night sleep all good. They were working lobby renovations today but it didn’t interfere with anything.

The room is in need of refurbishment. The fan was noisy, and the air conditioning was old and struggled to cool the room effectively.

Maintained to a good standard, always happy to help and great food

Had a lovely stay at the hotel. Great location. Would stay there again if visiting York. Staff were so friendly and helpful. Breakfast was really good.

Booked a double-double room for a university visit. Hotel location is excellent and the room was clean and relatively well equipped, if a little dated. Beds were comfortable and there were the usual facilities in there too (fan, iron and boars, safe etc..) The only negative point is that there is no air conditioning, which - given that we managed to arrive on a day that was 27c - was a problem. The fans helped but it was still a clammy and uncomfortable night. Even budget hotels these days have AC so if you're staying in York during the warmer months it's worth bearing this in mind - especially when we paid almost £300/night.

Great location, parking a little on the pricey side but we had a great stay

Perfect location in ‘Old’ Town - 15 minute walk from train station and 15 minute walk to York Minster Cathedral.

Standard room. Very satisfactory. Entrance was being refurbished. Safety of guests was of the utmost importance to the staff. A free glass of bubbles was given as a gesture of goodwill.

There was work being done in the reception area. But it did not affect our stay. The room was perfect. The breakfast was wonderful. The staff were very attentive, friendly and polite. I would stay here again. Very happy

This hotel has the best location in York bar none. Ask for a room with Tower view and you get to enjoy a close look at the nightly illuminated York castle. The only potential downside if you visit in the summer, is that this property is old and the rooms are not equipped with air conditioning systems (although the hotel provides you with electric fans). If you have a car, call the hotel in advance and pre-pay/reserve a spot in their garage.
