Atakemaru The scarlet Japanese balloon boat "Atakemaru" (capacity: 500 passengers) that catches the eye at Kobe Port is based on the giant ship "Atakemaru" built by order of the third Shogun of the Edo Shogunate, Lord Iemitsu. It was renovated in 2017 under the supervision of Eiji Mitooka, an industrial designer born in Okayama. The interior of the ship, which has non-reserved seating, is decorated with brightly colored fusuma paintings, Japanese umbrellas, and ceiling paintings, creating a luxurious and dignified space that combines styles from the past and present, East and West, like a mandala.
