Champneys Tring

I think this hotel has Hotel.com and Booking specific rooms in the hotel. The grounds are grand and passing areas like the spa elevates the look of an otherwise outdated and tired hotel past it's best. My room was on the same side of a hallway that hosted some luxury looking rooms on the right vs dorm room doors on the left (I was in the rooms on the left). The room was clean although it had a few flags - prompts on the bedside to make a cup of tea, but no kettle? Toiletries opened and potentially used in the bathroom. "Filtered water" in the room which had it's seal broken and the water tasted a bit rank. The buffet breakfast looks the part but the coffee was shocking and a lot of the food tasted stale, old and far from quality. I used the sauna which was lovely and the pool areas looked relaxing. For some reason you have to give your robe back at reception? At peak departure times this became pretty messy and seems quite unhygienic for FOH staff to do. Hey, its the best I could find in the area. I'd probably go back if I had to but I hope the hotels owners see this and put some of that spa money to where it could elevate the entire venue to match it's exterior charm. I'd have raised these in person but even using the express checkout was hassle enough.

There does seem to be a difficulty in getting the room serviced even with a sign put on the door handle outside the room to refresh it. I think if the staff have moved floors then someone should be checking from housekeeping. A sign to have a service put on a door at 9 am should be picked up. Possibly a sign of being short staffed. I mention it as it’s not the first time but on a previous occasion someone did ensure a service the following day. I did mention the issue as I checked out this time.

Rooms are a bit tatty. The breakfast was limited - option to pay more for hot food a bit naff!

Exceeded expectations. Really lovely setting. Good facilities and polite and helpful staff. Rooms are a bit dated and there’s no aircon which was v.disappointing but otherwise great.

Best spa

The property really needs some maintenance to it. Very dated all round. Champneys used to hold a high standard name as a spa hotel but over the years it’s really lost its touch. Was disappointed with the cleanliness of the spa facilities. Was in the spa for 2ish hours and not a single member of staff cleaning anything. Mainly the floors which were full of grit/hair/dirt. Edging of pool areas have algae. Really just needs a deep clean. We didn’t stay for dinner however we had breakfast which was underwhelming. We were on the last sitting of 9.15am but nothing was getting topped up despite asking. Breads were out/butter was out/yogurts out/fruit bowls out or on last scraps. The coffee was super weak - not even black it was the colour of tea. I had to ask one of the staff if this was on its last leg as it just didn’t look right. Luckily a kind server came and gave me a fresh pot of strong coffee which I’m incredibly grateful for. Whilst no real complaints of staff, I didn’t find them as welcoming as you would in a spa hotel.

Very relaxing

I've stayed in nicer hospitals. The room was very similar to a hospital room, really REALLY tired. The bathroom was the same. A fire alarm went off at 1am, and went off a few times mid morning so clearly faulty and no recompense was offered. The breakfast was pitiful and I would never stay there again.

Arrived at location at 5pm which was checking in time crazy time for this. Que at the reception. Don’t pay for dinner if you have not read the menu as they will take the money upfront. Bar staff was amazing Amir was such a fantastic host he made the evening.

Very dated… the spa area is very small, tiny pool, dirty sauna and steam room area.. we had to pay an extra £70 each to use the spa area. Which was awful…. Very disappointing for champneys.

Reception staff offered a friendly welcome, the room was immaculate, and the facilities were superb. I would stay again

Rooms abit run down and poor on check in

Dining offerings (dinner, breakfast) were great and the grounds were beautiful! Room could have been a bit cleaner, but the rest of the amenities more than made up for it(:

Someone entered my room when I was asleep at approximately 10.50pm. They must have had a key card. I mentioned it to reception when I left but I have had no follow up. I have stayed a number of times at Tring but no longer feel safe to do so
