Holiday Inn DARLINGTON - NORTH A1M, JCT.59 by IHG, an IHG Hotel

The public areas were nice and modern. The room we had was in need of upkeep. For example, the linoleum in front of the sink was lifted up. There was a loose tile in the toilet/shower room with missing grout. It was confusing... There was a portable radiator and a fan - and then some kind of blower unit above the door. Only a dry iron was provided.

Good for a overnight stay.

We thought we’d stay in a Holiday Inn because we thought it would be more upmarket than our usual Premier Inn stays.. how wrong. This is a tired soulless motorway service station stop. Apparently only 4 rooms have baths and they’re charged out at executive suite rates. This wasn’t clear at booking. The glass shower door rattled like it was going to come off its hinges, the shower and toilet reminded us of being on an overnight ferry. Rooms are tired, small tv, the staff had forgotten to make up a sofa bed for the kids. The doors were heavy with gnarled and worn wood, and banged constantly, resulting in very poor sleep. Meal for 4 was extortionate and very poor quality for the money charged. Very poor selection of drinks at the bar. Fine for the miriad of workmen and suited salesmen but very little comfort to speak of. If you’re with a family, Avoid!

Overall pretty good- room was decent size, clean, beds were comfy and breakfast was nice- the only thing that let it down a tad was the booking was for 3 people and yet there was only 2 of everything (water glass, mugs, tea bags etc).

We stay here often it is always a good breakfast and very clean bedrooms comfy beds and the staff are very helpful and always pleasant

Just an over night stay to attend a meeting but location was perfect and the room amazing I will stay again when I next travel to Newcastle.

Our one night stay had everything we needed. Room was comfortable, staff were efficient, friendly and helpful and the food we had at breakfast and evening meal was superb.

Standard traveller’s hotel on A1M, lifted by the quality of the breakfast which was excellent

Hotel room was old and tired, shower and toilet is basic along with the sink being in the room rather than in the bathroom. Bed was ok not great, overall not worth the money paid for the night. I have stayed in much better hotels for less, this was a last minute necessity. Staff were friendly, credit where due!

Comfortable stay at HI as always, nice, spacious room with good shower.

Very large and comfortable room. The worst breakfast I’ve eaten in a very long time. All food was rock hard the hash brown disintegrated upon putting fork in could have lost teeth on the bacon, I asked for a fresh egg as those in the dish were rock hard. The pastries were incredibly unfresh and very oily. The canned fruit was nice!

A superior room which sadly was on the ground floor with the parking area directly outside the window. Both cars started up and revved engines very early in order to warm their vehicles up before driving off, waking me up. The room was very cold so had to ask for an independent heater. Very disappointing and uncomfortable. I did ask for another room but none were available!

Great stay! Very spacious room, nice staff. Only down side was that the sofa bed mattress was not very comfortable.

The room's decor seemed a little dated, and the climate control system wasn't working perfectly; however, a heater was provided. The staff were extremely kind and professional.
