Orwell Hotel

I arrived at 4pm The room was warm and comfortable. Not decorated to my taste with maroon walls and carpet with heavy furniture. It was clean There was a rip in the net curtain and a stain on the wall above the kettle All things i could overcome . At 6pm the fun started. Power cut. Limited lighting in the room No electricity so no TV and not able to charge my phone No hot water to wash ,let alone to shower or bathe. Reception promised in a few minutes all will Return . 9pm Still no heating in the room .-1 outside. No TV No electricity and a complete blackout. Electricity returned an hour later . I had just fallen asleep when everything returned . Except the hot water. One of the reason i chose this hotel is for the bath,not having one at home i was looking forward to pampering myself. I had travelled from Cambridge and visited family graves during the day.i suffer from arthritis. Still no hot water in the morning . Receptionist Alexis was very professional . Gave me another room just to shower.so i walked in my pyjamas looking forward to a bath .guess what ?no hot water . I told them i didn't want to stay another night she said another room will be available at 3pm . I returned to the hotel at 5.30. My new room was in a corner with 3 workers renovating the rooms opposite .i left the hotel. The management will reimburse my stay for 2 night and need your approval .

The bar and lobby areas were very nice. The bedroom was clean but very cold, the bathroom was clean but some tiles were left with no grouting and there were Rawlplugs sticking out that could have been easily trimmed and filled.The water was cold and the shower was a joke, the water pressure was shocking! I found the staff very pleasant but i felt that hearing guests complaining about the same problems was disheartening for them to say the least.

The room was very dated and dirty…not like the pictures shown. Very disappointing.

Friendly staff, but room was decor looking tired and with no heating in room.

If there was a breakfast , we wasnt told about it?? Room was clean , staff sorted our tv problems out . Shame he couldnt sort the heating out , when we got to our room it was cold , we turned up the radiators , but it did nothing , there was an electric heater in our room , so we plugged that in , it took the chill out of the air.

No heating, no water in the morning. Still eating on the hotel manger to call me! Receptionist extremely good but the room was way bellow the standard I’d extent.

Buffet breakfast with everything you could need. Clean room with toiletries. Coffee tea hot choc,biscuits. Free parking.

Room clean, staff friendly

Excellent- great location , comfortable well equipped spacious room, lovely building and areas. Great food and service in the restaurant. Caring and helpful staff throughout.

Temperature outside was 1 degree, yet central heating wasn’t working. My room had a small plug in heater which didn’t create enough warmth. Shower had poor pressure. Not a great experience unfortunately.

Lovely old English hotel with lots of original features. rooms a little dated, but for the price were perfectly fine. good location just at the end of the high street, we walked down the high street and down to the beach past the pier, then back into the town for evening meal.

no heat in room except 2 electric heaters, we couldn’t use main room so we had to sit in bedroom with doors shut and both heaters on to stay warm. Was told at reception but should of been informed at booking

Clean room, great location, everything we wanted from a hotel room at a great price.

clean bathroom with poor bathroom window -not sure if window was lockable or even secure.

This Hotel used to be very good but on this last trip, it certainly failed to impress. I wont go back.

The place was lovely and went beyond expectations! The staff were all polite and friendly and went out of their way to bring a room service call(i believe his name was Alfie) nothing was too much for him and he was super polite and efficient for all the time we wrre there.

Quite clean large car park

The room was great, amenities, breakfast and price.

Room lovely. Staff really helpful. Great parking right on High St opposite Sainsburys. Wood panelled Bar lovely.

Room could definitely do with an upgrade. Breakfast was pretty dire.
