Parking was easy. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious and clean. The beer garden was nice to sit in, although some areas would benefit from a little tlc. The menu was average, but nice food. We would stay there again.

It was difficult to assess the facilities properly as there were some building work going on .
The bar areas were clean and tidy.
The outside seating area could do with a sweep and the garden trimmed. But was pleasant having a drink in the sunshine.
The staff were very polite, helpful and friendly.
We were woken about 8 am by the noise of the cleaning staff but not a huge problem as we wanted to leave about 10am.
The handrail to the upper floors could do with a good clean and polish. But the room and bathroom were clean and tidy.
A very minor problem that we didn’t find out until late evening a bedside light didn’t work but managed without it.
We left the morning after too early to report to the staff

We parked our car in customer parking area and took bags through the hotel entrance arrived at the reception , we checked in and gave car registration for parking and was issued keys for room 3 and advised what key /fob got us where. Being advised that the small fob for security was access to the rooms ….. very disappointing to arrive back at the venue on Saturday night to see the door propped open and access to rooms available to anyone using the pub!
we climbed the stairs one flight to find directions to our room, which was a basic room requiring some real TLC and clearly one of the rooms still waiting the refurb!
The room had double bed (rather high and firm) a small table and one chair, a cupboard with iron, fan and a small radiator, the bathroom was not greatly lit one small light at the back of the toilet, (which had a loose toilet seat )with basin and shower over the bath. Trying to get hot water was a big challenge too!
The room was not serviced during our stay of two nights
We got back to the George around 10.40pm, the bar was open and the staff were very helpful, although disappointing that Pepsi max was not sold and only option was Coke or Coke Zero ☹️
The bar area was dark, when locked up at night the bar was surrounded by wooden boards to deter theft I would imagine when the bar was closed, this would have looked much better with metal roller doors from above the bar. Beer garden ok but steep steps to get into the area, food options limited no breakfast

We arrived to find the propery clad in scaffolding and whilst they did do food could not offer breakfast . We were awaken at circa 5am with bin lorries and delivery vans and following on the setting up of the Monday market -- very very noisy indeed. At 8am whist still in bed we had workmen walking past the windows and doing a lot of "yawping" even singing . We shoul have been forewarned of this and in fact put at the rear of the hotel as there was vacant rooms . All in all most unsatisfactory

The Hotel is currently under renovation however that did not affect our stay at all. Room a good size, bed very comfortable and tea/coffee/biscuits provided. Location was great and very quiet at night.
A special mention to the staff who went above and beyond in assisting us. A small hiccup with my room was rectified immediately. Plus they were friendly and great to have a chat with. I would love to see the finished renovation as I can imagine it to look very pretty.

Room was big with decent beds, but it was old, poorly maintained. Lights by bed didnt work, main light was dim, window only ope ns a couple of inches, bathroom and toilet dirty, bath tub is high up from the floor and hard to step out of if you are short. Chairs were dirty too. The lady at check in was nice but all the other staff seemed disinterested in helping us or making us feel valued. One completely ignored me when i said hello and went up to the desk to ask a question. I asked about staying another night due to a change of plans and wanting to stay near the train station - i was quoted almost double the price i was already paying for the same room, i asked about a possible late check out and was abruptly shot down with a no. They didnt even look to try and accommodate the request. In the end we moved to another hotel close by for the rest of our stay. The only good things were the size of the room, the location right next to the abbey and bus/train station and the free coffee/tea/milk/biscuits in the room

Parking is limited but easy to get too. Linen nice and clean, towels and bedding. Tea and coffee provided in room. Only problem is that twice we have visited the hotel recently and had problems with the shower, no cold water therefore water was too hot, and previously shower handle broke off. First time another room was provided, second time offered a change of room or a room for a shower, staff offered a solution. All staff very friendly.
