Stepping into this beautiful 1600s Devon inn felt like travelling back in time in the best possible way. Full of charm, character, and cosy atmosphere, it had everything you could want for a relaxing countryside stay. From the weird and wonderful ornaments on the walls to the historic beams and welcoming surroundings, every detail made it feel truly special.
Laura was an absolutely fantastic landlord — warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming from the moment we arrived. She made us feel completely at home and went above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful stay.
A huge bonus was how much both my partner and our dog loved it too! It’s not always easy to find somewhere that’s genuinely dog-friendly while still feeling so comfortable and high quality, but this place absolutely nailed it. Plenty of lovely walks and beaches nearby, a relaxed atmosphere, and lots of fuss for the dog made it perfect for all of us.

A beautiful 16th century inn, everything is absolutely clean from the rooms to the stairs, the food is nothing out of this world but it was quite good, my Fifi was treated like a Diva. All was fantastic and for the price it's absolutely good value for money, the landlady she's absolutely great in every way and of course she's the heart and soul of the site. Thank you and we will come back. 5 stars

Landlady went beyond to make sure we had a comfortable stay. Incredible food and sent us off in the morning with complimentary food water for our trek. Extremely friendly/welcoming atmosphere!

The team was incredibly welcoming, and looked after me well. I had a lovely evening meal, and they were kind enough to do an early breakfast for me, as I was doing a long-distance walk and needed to make the most of daylight hours. The room was quite compact, and it is clearly an older building, but was comfy enough for me. The bathroom was compact, but certainly not cramped.

The most unhygienic hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Arrived around lunchtime and ordered some food in the pub. Upon sitting down we noticed food scraps all over the floor, the table was filthy and the wall behind the booth was covered in mould. We couldn’t lean back as we would have got mould in our hair/on our clothes. The staff were friendly and were able to get us into our room well ahead of check-in time but unfortunately the cleanliness of the hotel completely overshadowed the whole experience. The rooms were a decent size but everything was so old - the sheets, towels and pillows looked about 10 years old. I actually couldn’t bring myself to sleep under the sheets and slept with my coat over me. There was mould in the shower and spiders. The room got quite cold at night so I left the plug-in heater running for an hour or so before falling asleep. I woke up to a spark from the heater and realised it had died. It was a great location for what we were doing in Devon but would never stay there again. I heard of friends of friends who actually couldn’t do another night at the hotel and went back to London early.
