Akureyri Hostel

Absolutely loved it here! Quite large, room was really spacious, large area upstairs for relaxing and dining and huge kitchen. Would book this on a heartbeat over a hotel for sure. We had a room for 3 with 3 separate beds, sink area and desk with room to spare. Beautiful very clean and contemporary spot but has lots of antique stuff around to look at.

La struttura è organizzata molto bene, gli spazi comuni sono ordinati e puliti. Le camere sono moderne e anche i bagni sono impeccabili (in particolar modo quelli posti al piano superiore. Sala da pranzo grande. Assolutamente consigliato!

Every thing was good except the WiFi, it basically didn’t work at all. We could access some news sites, nothing else, no YouTube, no TikTok, no photo upload or download. We called the owner and was told it’s because of the weather and she could do nothing. You know what, it was a beautiful sunny day.

The facility is very clean and quiet. The room was a good size and the bed was comfortable. It is a very nice place to stay.

The hostel is well located near fuel, shopping and food options on the road out of town. Showers and kitchen seemed new. A good base to use when in Akureyri.

When we booked this hotel, we were informed that we would receive an email with the entrance code one day before arrival. However, upon arrival, we found no such email in our inbox or spam folder or expedia inbox. As a result, we were left standing outside the hotel in the cold, unable to enter. This forced us to make an expensive international call to the front desk just to gain access to our room — something that should have been seamlessly arranged beforehand. This lack of communication and preparedness was extremely frustrating and unacceptable for a self-check-in property.

I was surprised by how nice this property was. Our room even had a couch in it. The kitchen was well equipped. I wish we were able to stay more than one night!

Never got a confirmation email from the property and never received check in information. Had to work with Expedia to get the information while standing outside in the cold while it was raining. Nothing like being in a foreign country without cell phone signal and having no way to get into the hotel. Everything else about the location was just fine

Overall quite happy eith the experience, but i never received an email with check in instructions prior to arrival, and with this being a completley remote check in, cause me to have to jump through some extra hoops to get my room. The property operator did answer the phone and sort it out quite quickly though!

I would strongly recommend this hostel to anyone traveling in Akureyri! It is far and away the best hostel I've ever stayed in (and honestly closer to a hotel than most). The common areas are kept meticulously clean, and are decorated beautifully. The kitchen is fully furnished with multiple cooktops, fridges, and sinks. I stayed in a room with two twin beds, and it also had a desk, TV, and small sink (one of my favorite amenities). The bathrooms are stylish and always clean. Truly a fabulous place!

The second time we stayed here within a week, as we came back to Akureyri and really loved this place. However, we were placed in a larger room with a bunk and two single beds. As we are a couple, we wanted a double bed, in a standard twin room. However, when we called the property, they insisted that this room was an 'upgrade.' We had to sleep on separate beds, and we didn't need such a big room. We also didn't have a sink in this room, which we had on our previous stay.

A really nice stay at Akureyri HI Hostel, with very modern facilities and decor in all rooms. The kitchen was very well equipped, and the freebies (tea, filter coffee, hot chocolate, and cereal) were very much appreciated. We also had a sink in our room, and bathrooms were all very convenient. Secure keyless access to the main building and room (using the same code). A very easy, comfortable stay.

The hostel exceeded all expectations. The room was well presented and clean. The kitchen and bathroom facilities were exceptional. Everything you could need and more. Check in was simple and code came through well in advance. Would definitely come back here again 😊
