I would strongly recommend this hostel to anyone traveling in Akureyri! It is far and away the best hostel I've ever stayed in (and honestly closer to a hotel than most). The common areas are kept meticulously clean, and are decorated beautifully. The kitchen is fully furnished with multiple cooktops, fridges, and sinks. I stayed in a room with two twin beds, and it also had a desk, TV, and small sink (one of my favorite amenities). The bathrooms are stylish and always clean. Truly a fabulous place!

The second time we stayed here within a week, as we came back to Akureyri and really loved this place. However, we were placed in a larger room with a bunk and two single beds. As we are a couple, we wanted a double bed, in a standard twin room. However, when we called the property, they insisted that this room was an 'upgrade.' We had to sleep on separate beds, and we didn't need such a big room. We also didn't have a sink in this room, which we had on our previous stay.

A really nice stay at Akureyri HI Hostel, with very modern facilities and decor in all rooms. The kitchen was very well equipped, and the freebies (tea, filter coffee, hot chocolate, and cereal) were very much appreciated. We also had a sink in our room, and bathrooms were all very convenient. Secure keyless access to the main building and room (using the same code). A very easy, comfortable stay.

The hostel exceeded all expectations. The room was well presented and clean. The kitchen and bathroom facilities were exceptional. Everything you could need and more. Check in was simple and code came through well in advance. Would definitely come back here again 😊

Good value 2 star property and on a convenient location for shops and a bus ride from the airport. However, it good do with more than just one shared shower.

Die angekündigte Email mit dem Code für den Hauptzugang ist nie eingetroffen. Auch auf meine Anfrage 1 Tag vor der Anreise gab es überhaupt keine Reaktion. So stand ich um 2 Uhr morgens vor der Tür und musste über ausgehängte Tel-nr. meinen Code und die Zimmernr. abfragen.

Would stay there again

It was clean and spacious enough for my 3 friends and I to be comfortable. Everyone I spoke to were friendly. It was easy to walk from there to almost anywhere we went for those few days. I’d definitely recommend this hostel.

It was comfortable and the woman in reception was super helpful in steering us toward the best places to see northern lights, which natural areas to visit, etc. It wasn’t really walkable to anything, so I think in the future I’d stay somewhere more central. Compared to other hostels, the bathrooms weren’t as convenient on the 1st floor, but the kitchen was spacious and clean and overall a good experience

Auberge très bien placée ! Parking gratuit, espaces communs grands, propres et bien équipés (ustensiles de cuisine, jeux, livres,...).

We had a good stay at the hostel. It is a family (father and daughter) run hostel. Both were super friendly and had great tips and recommendations. They helped us to decide on best day and time for a whale watching tour and also arranged the booking for us. Kitchen was big and very clean. Just one information: only salt and sugar was available (no oil, pepper, etc) because they pay very big attention to keeping the kitchen clean and that no groceries from leaving people are still there. Room size was good for 2 people with 2 pcs of big luggage. Sufficient showers and toilets available.
