Klang, also spelled as Kelang is the royal town of Selangor and is located on the west coast of the peninsular Malaysia right before Shah Alam. The name of the town was taken from the river that cuts through the town, Klang River and and ends up at the western of the Klang Valley.
Klang was established in 1643 and since it is located right beside the river, Port Klang is the biggest marine port in the country, compromising of three ship-berthing terminals – West Port, South Port and North Port. This city has its own special tourist spots, historical monuments and buildings that is embedded with the rich cultural heritage of the many races in Klang which makes this royal town a must visit when visiting Malaysia.
This Keris Monument was built in 1985 to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of the installation of the Sultan Selangor, the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah. The Keris which was first located in Taman Rashna was then relocated to Klang Royal Gardens in 2014 near the Alam Shah Palace. It is about 12.7 tonnes in weight and is surrounded by koi pond.
This fort was built by Raja Mahadi to defend himself against Raja Abdullah to control the rich mining activities in this district. Ships that moved in and out of Pangkalan Batu can be observed from here. Later, the fort fell into the hands of Tengku Kudin who was sent by the Selangor Sultan to fight Raja Mahadi who had failed to pay his debts to the Sultan. After 6 months of fighting, Raja Mahadi retreated. Today, Klg. Municipal Council is located here and serves as one of the historical landmarks of this royal town.
