Ella Alpine Resort

Did not feel welcome after a very rough road ride to the property and descending 49 steps to reach registration and passing some amazing properties in the way making me envious.

We had a wonderful stay and couldn’t recommend this place more. The view makes this property extra special. What really stood out was the staff — they were excellent, genuinely caring, and always ready to help with anything. Their kindness made our stay even more memorable. We loved every moment and would definitely come back!

Lovely hotel, with an amazing view of the mountains from our balcony. Very comfortable bed and the staff were friendly and helpful. 15 minute walk from Ella City which makes it feel very peaceful.

The price point is way too high for what you get. We thought this would be a nice place but is very basic. You can find the same standard and view to much better place. The bed was old, the shower pressure was almost non existing, dripping almost when you had hot water.

From the balcony of Ella Alpine Resort, you can watch the sunrise paint the valley in gold and hear nothing but birds and the sound of nature waking up. The room? Cozy, elegant, and filled with light — with panoramic windows that make you want to stay in bed just to watch the view. It’s the perfect place to slow down, breathe, and remember how good life feels when you’re present

I was upgraded to a larger room with a great view, which I appreciated. But the manager arranged a driver who took me to a scam-like massage place. It was unsafe and I had to go to the Tourist Police myself to get a full refund. The manager, despite having recommended the driver himself, refused to take responsibility, and his response afterward was far from reassuring. The owner offered a discount the next day but never apologized. I had asked to use the “Pick Me” app, but was pushed to use their driver. For a solo female traveler, Pick Me is safer because of tracking and transparent pricing. The staff seemed unaware of this. Other issues: • The underground room could be seen directly from the balcony, which was also connected to the manager’s room. Sometimes he even spoke to me from the balcony. I had to keep the curtains closed even during the day to feel any privacy. There were no amenities such as shampoo. Also, there was only one old shared hair dryer for the whole hotel, and on some days it wasn’t available. I expected a peaceful stay, but instead felt constantly interfered with. The memory of the massage experience still troubles me, and even without that, the stay was not worth the price. While there were things I appreciated, I cannot say the overall stay was satisfying.

“I recently stayed here, and it was an absolutely amazing experience. When I first looked it up, I saw some older reviews that were negative, but those were from years ago when the building wasn’t finished. Now, it’s a beautifully built place—spotlessly clean, no bugs (which can be an issue in Ella), with a comfortable bed, spacious room, and a pristine bathroom. Everything was just perfect. But the real highlight was the view. From the balcony, I saw the most breathtaking sunrises and panoramas you can find in Ella. The service was outstanding. Priyanath and his team, including the chef and another staff member, were incredibly attentive and always went above and beyond to meet my requests—whether it was arranging a budget-friendly car service or responding quickly on WhatsApp. Even the owner was always available and helpful. I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting in the future. It’s a hidden gem, and I’ll definitely be coming back

One of our favourite stays in Sri Lanka! The host was very welcoming and it was a pleasure getting to know him and talk about his country. We were greeted with tea and biscuits on their balcony which has jaw dropping views! You are right in the middle of nature with the mountains surrounding you get easy to get into the centre of town. The room was clean and nicely decorated with a lovely balcony and with the same wonderful view. We had a delicious traditional Sri Lankan breakfast as well. Would highly recommend!

This property is incredibly situated with an amazing view down Ella Gap. The rooms are built into the side of the hill, with wooden doors and windows openingnupmon the view - so tjink more like a challet (or lodge!) than fancynjotel room. You will need your mosquito repellant. The staff are really lovely and can't do enough for you, helping to make plans for hikes, arranging transport, doing any washing you have- they are really spot on. The hotel is up Waterfall Road, which is essentialy a bumpy track, but Tuk Tuks can get up there easily enough. There is a little shortcut into town, walking along the railway (perfectly normal in Sri Lanka and if a train comes, you could easily outrun it!), then, especially at night, best to junp in a Tuk Tuk back up to the Alpine Lodge. It's a very relaxing place, easy to access hiking routes, and a world away from downtown Ella whoch is very touristy. I hoghly recommend a few nights here.

A really lovely accommodation with the most incredible views. The room was clean and spacious with a balcony so you wake up to a view of the mountails The host Priyanatha is so warm, welcoming and always available to help. Breakfast was lovely (especially the hoppers). A short walk (or tuk tuk) into town. Loved my stay here! Thank you!

Property is like 1 km away from the main Ella town , but scheduled but the view from the hotel is amazing , best sunrise view, nicely managed , staff is amazing and very helpful

The resort enjoys a wonderful view of the valley and the staff are incredibly friendly. Each room enjoys a breathtaking view and a high risk of visits by the local monkeys. We ranked the resort as average because of the price point and poor amenities. The property is twice as expensive as neighboring properties, but without the amenities or services. We would have given 4 or 5 stars if the property presented itself as a hostel and not like a resort. Also of note, guests are required to climb steep stairs to enter or depart the property.

Unpaved rode getting to this place. Construction in progress. Steps going down to rooms uneven and no railings. Room spacious and basic. No decor. Love the shower and balcony overlooking the mountains. Staff very friendly.

I really enjoyed my stay at Ella Alpine Resort - amazing views, super friendly and helpful staff going out of their way to make your stay pleasant. They prepared super tasty dinner for me and breakfast for take away as I had an early train. Highly recommended👌💯

The host and staff were very friendly and helpful. Beautiful views and a great breakfast. A 15 minute walk or 5 minute Tuk Tuk into town. Highly recommended!

Well worth the room rate. Beautiful view from the room. Manager was very very helpful. Not easy for a car to get to from the main part of Ella but easy to walk.

A simple lodge with awesome views! I was gently greeted by the rising sun. No Aircon but temperatures were between 16 to 18 degrees Celsius in the early morning. You need to be moderately fit to climb down 2 flights of stairs to reach your room. The road up is very tight and big cats may have difficulties going uphill in the tight environment. Hotel manager Priyanatha helped me book a very punctual Tuk Tuk that fetched me up and down. Thank you!
