Fern Colombo

I stayed for two nights at the Fern. The Fern has a small restaurant in the lobby. To be honest, I don’t remember the items on the menu, but they didn’t seem attractive at prices It was empty of people. The first thing I noticed as I walked in was the odor of stale food. It permeated all the way up to the third floor. It left an underlying odor that was unpleasant. The room did not smell bad. The mattress was soft, I woke up with a back ache. The bathroom was well maintained. There no safe in the room, a huge problem for me, no place to lock up my passport and identity document including my birth certificate, credit cards, laptop, and other probated documents I needed for official purposes. The kicker to this all was that there were rodents in the ceiling running around, fighting, and squealing at each other. They would run up and down in the ceiling of my room. At times, it seemed that they’d jump through the recess that contained some of the lights. I couldn’t call the front desk because the phone jack was broken. The animals stopped running around at about 4:00AM. I suppose I should mention that the kitchen entrance was off the corridor to the elevator. I peered in. The kitchen didn’t seem to be more than a galley. The health department would have had a fit. I complained to the staff on checking out. They apologized in what was to me, perfunctorily. Never again will I stay at the Fern in my many trips to Colombo, I go about twice a month.

Clean and quiet room; quiet location; friendly and helpful staff. A special thanks to Nafill for helping us arrange bus tickets and taxi/tuk tuk rides. Will definitely stay there again when we pass through Colombo.

Had a quick stop off at Fern Colombo, after flying in from Singapore. Room was clean and tidy. The service the next morning was very helpful

Clean, nice staff, aircon was a bit dodgy and needed fixing, need more hairdryers as they had none available for us but good value for money over all

this is a small hotel but needs to improve on maintenance big time. Dining hall greets you as you enter the hotel and its full of flies and bad smell, probably from the garbage room beside elevator. took a peek in the kitchen and its filthy. linens are stained and dirty linens lying around everywhere in the corridor. If they can maintain it well, this could be an excellent budget hotel.

Fern Colombo is such a pleasant hotel to stay in. The central location is perfect and all the staff members during my stay are attentive and helpful. Right from arrival to the hotel up to departure, everything was perfect. The room is spacious, clean shower room and linens and well maintained for a very pleasant stay. Safe neighbourhood and also the hotel is close to many embassies. Will be back soon, Thank you Fern Colombo for making my stay a great one!

It was an excellent short stay. The staff was super friendly and the rooms were very clean and modern!

This is my go to hotel when I come to Colombo- it’s in an excellent location and the price is really good. Rooms are modern & clean with hot water. Staff are super friendly and helpful. The only feedback would be to update the cafe area- it’s a bit dark and not welcoming, maybe create an open kitchen?

The staff was super helpful and nice. The location is hard to find (especially at the evening) but close to some sightseeing spots so convenient. The area is not so noisy but peaceful compared to some district of Colombo. The room was clean and straightforward.

This is a nice and quiet hotel. However they had an ant infestation in the bathroom.

Standard hotel with standard services. More than a comment about this hotel, I wonder the real interest to spend more than 1 day in Colombo.
