Emerald Residence

The Emerald Residence is a good option for a slightly cheaper stay in York, as it's a bus ride from the centre. Buses are regular (Route 7 to the Park & Ride or route 415 to Selby depart from different points in the city centre - route 7 is the one to use from the railway station, but there are no buses early on Sunday morning). My room was clean and spacious, and did not face the main road so there was no traffic noise. Initial entry requires two codes - one for the front door and one for the bedroom; these were given by phone, so if you don't have a UK mobile phone (or roaming) this could be a slight problem. Once inside there's a keycard to use for access so you don't need to remember the codes, One thing to note: alcohol is strictly forbidden to be consumed on the premises. The area is generally quiet; there's a small Coop store about 5 minutes' walk away that has long opening hours.

A late change of plans meant i needed a last minute room in york on a bank holiday Sunday. This was cheap and in reasonable walking distance to rhe centre, about 20 mins brisk walk. I had low expectations however was pleasantly surprised, room small but clean with a minu fridge, complimentary tea/coffee making facilities, complimentary bottle of water and even had a hairdryer in the room. For the price paid excellent value for a single night.

The pictures that are used for single rooms at Emerald House don't do them justice. The room I had contained a mini-fridge, kettle, hairdryer, sink and enough encroutements for both cleaning and drinking and a small TV on an extendable arm, allowing for some background noise whilst chilling. Location wise I needed something close to both the city centre and also the university and this met both needs. There are bus stops on either side of the road quite nearby and these are great to get into town or the out of town shopping centre. The room was quiet (although some other guests tried their best to change that on the Saturday night) and I managed to sleep well both nights I stayed. The room was larger than shown in the pictures and even though it was road facing it nice and quiet. Dining wise there aren't any takeways/restaraunts in the immediate vicinity, but the city centre is a short bus ride away and I took that approach and enjoyed several relaxing walks back from the city centre, back to Emerald house. The host who met me was lovely and helpful, as was the phone support I got before arriving and during my stay. I would stay there again for sure.

The worst property to be there They have beds which have wheels so its very much uncomfortable to sleep Broken beds given Worst place to stay Oy hand shower is there but that too does not work properly No staffs after 6-8pm You wnt receive help when needed Most of the furnitures are broken

Good clean comfortable room. Check in was a bit difficult as it is done over the phone and the guy was a bit stroppy. Apart from that room was pleasant, easy access and free parking was great.

I don't care about some negative review in this place. All I need is a place to sleep with while spending my holiday in York. And this place is perfect. It has everything I need (towel, toiletries, refreshments). Very clean and tidy. Nice toilet and shower. Location, it is very near in bus stops that could take you in a few minutes to the city center. I enjoy my stay here as much as I enjoy traveling York. I just want a little suggestion to atleast have a microwave oven so we can buy ready to eat foods. Besides that.. everything is perfect.

Room great.bit far to walk back into town.noisy as new years eve and other guests were very loud in hallways.

A bit out of the way, we dropped lucky with someone being onsite to let us in. Bit of a hike to get food and drink

Quite comfortable and a very friendly welcome. Easy to take a bus into the city centre. Highly recommended!

Well priced handy stopover for York city centre with free parking. November time of year. The toom was a bit on the cold side but an electric heater was included to help. Ensuite, everything worked. Remote check -in was a breeze.

Really poor. Room was cold...only a oil filled radiator in the room as the heating was not on. I was in the attic with a shared bathroom. The sink in the room was useless. Both taps were impossible to clse. Require replacing. I should know im a retired plumber. Banged my head fourtimes on the ceiling beams and im only a small guy.. As for the shared bathroom it was filthy. Shower curtain was mouldy and the bath panel was cracked and hanging off Toilet seat (pine) was split and unhygienic. Taps in the hand basin same as in my room. Fair enough i went for the price in comparison to other similar accommodations but rest assured i will never stay there again. Awful.

Excellent for visiting York as buses are frequent.

We arrived all seem good. Radiator in the bathroom had a bad leak so every time you went to the toilet, your pants and socks ended up soaking. We were on the bottom floor right beside the front door which we Heard banging every time anybody come in the people stopping above us arguing all night And they knocked on my door Disturbed me and my two children then 3 police Vans arrived For the people arguing, then we got disturbed again with the police at our window with Set of ladders To Claim up to the top room above us So I was not good at all as my children were very scared spoilt our weekend that was on the Friday night then on the Saturday afternoon we had the police back at the door. We have been looking forward to this weekend for awhile and it got spoilt by the police and the people upstairs it’s not what you expect when you pay for hotel for a quiet weekend so pretty much waste of money I thought the manager might to come and see us on the Saturday to explain what was going on with all the police Outside, my window but never heard anything to be quite truthfully I think they should’ve been an apology and maybe it’s a bit of a refund as I drove for two hours to get there spent quite a bit of money on the hotel. My kids ended up scared and not want to go out.

Good value for money. The main opportunity for improvement is their service. When we arrived, no one was available to give us our key. There was a phone number to call on the front door. We called for about half an hour repeatedly with no answer and were considering going to another accommodation. We thought we had been scammed. We were tired, cold and unhappy. Finally we met another guest who said the same thing happened to them. We finally got through to someone who gave us the code to our room.

Remote check in,so it was a surprise to hear a couple loudly have sex when I arrived.Its cheap for York and it's clean,it was fresher's week apparently,so there was a lot of activity around midnight,lots of guests going outside to smoke,shout and slam the door .

There was no heat in the bathroom. Portable heater in bedroom area barely gave warmth to sleep comfortably. Ceiling needs repair from upstairs water leak. Worst issue was the noise - slamming doors, stomping up & down the stairs & knocking noisily on our room door after midnight. Other guests we believe were students. We should have been made aware of that before reserving. Noisy until 2:45 am.
