The Royal & Fortescue

First of all the positives. Lovely reception staff. Rooms were lovely and clean. Location perfect for our needs. Negatives, once you leave the reception and ground floor it is a very dated building. Our room was small but clean, issue glass screen in bathroom which you can’t move due to sink being in way so you cant get to the taps without climbing in the bath. I was woken around 2am by a really noisy butch of guests, not the hotels fault but could probably do with some sound proofing as the only reason I woke up was because it was so loud I thought they were in our room. Breakfast, lovely girls but didn’t ask us about allergies, showed us to table didn’t advise about cereals or juices. Asked if we wanted tea or coffee and took our breakfast order. How would I like my eggs? Pouched please! Received fried. No I didn’t complain as the lady sat next to us asked for boiled eggs and was told they don’t usually do them so would need to wait 10 minutes, when they arrived they were over cooked. The lady had also been woken by the other guests around 2am. Also restaurant was empty yet the lady and us were put right in a walk way where there seemed to be a lot of human traffic passing us. We did say something to reception on leaving and was offered to speak to a manger but I didn’t feel the need as the receptionist was lovely. Would we stay again, probably not.

Very clean and staff very friendly

Had the smaller type of double room and it was still perfectly spacious, clean and well appointed. Friendly and helpful staff - even giving my bicycle the five star treatment.

Everything, staff service, breakfast was amazing. The rooms were clean, tidy and spacious. Huge beds...!! My mother ordered fillet steak and it was veiny and tough... however this was replaced promptly, without question and a new meal brought out. That was perfect. Overall it was a lovely place to stay, the barman was funny attentive and engaging. I'll be back in the future. Thank you all.

We have stayed at the Fortescue a few times, but we were a little disappointed this time. Our room was at the back of the hotel and on the first floor, with no lift. My wife is on crutches so getting to the room was a struggle. Also, the room was very small. The bed was comfy and the shower was good. We release that there is always a little more noise at weekends, but we could clearly hear the beats of a nearby club until the early hours of the morning. Tip - If staying at the weekend, ask for a room at the front section of the hotel. We love the hotels position for the shops etc and the staff are fantastic.

Quite a lot around the hotel car park was a bit if a pain to find cause you have to go all around to park at back & then not a lot of spaces also didn’t appreciate dogs being in the restaurant when we were having breakfast to me that shouldn’t be allowed especially with food very unhealthy

Hotel right in town a prime position only problem is can be a bit noisy with the revelers going home in the early hours. Other than that the place is spotless, nice clean and comfortable rooms good staff rate it very good.

Warm welcome, helpful staff, spotlessly clean room, very comfortable bed. In the centre of town woth plenty of shops on the doorstep.

Parking was easy to use and the only thing I woul like to see changed is that the breakfast timings to 10.00am.

Very clean room

This is the 2nd time we have stayed at this hotel and i cant find one reason to fault it. Rooms are fantastic staff are very friendly and helpful. Will definitely come back again later in the year. We highly recommend have a carvey it was delicious 😋

The room are an excellent standard with good bathrooms. Just noisy, hear fans when other rooms use. Fair price. Food appears expensive apart from the Sunday carvery

Staff was great. Decor in the common areas was great, especially in the restaurant. Food and drink were very good. There were only two blemishes on our stay: the parking was difficult to find, some of the parking spaces were difficult to get into, some bar patrons took some of the hotel parking spaces, and the heat was turned-off for parts of the day.

Lovely hotel, Rooms comfortable, staff very nice. Bar very pleasant.
