Our Japan visit!
This is my first visit to Japan,to attend a two day conference in Yokohama. We land one day earlier to the full on-board conference in Hotel Navios Yokohama. But no rooms were available for early one night. So we forced to stay the night in a different hotel nearby.
From Bangalore to KL by MAS flight. Three and half hours/ then three hours break at KL. Another 7 hours to Narita Tokyo Airport. It was morning 0730 in Japan. The moment you touch your feet in the Japanese ground a wave of politeness shaver on you. The formalities at the Airport check out was simple and orderly.- no missing of baggages!
The conference officials welcome us and they put us on a bus to Yokohama. The roads, the vehicles, the drivers.....all of them made it a great experience of bus travel for nearly 90 minutes. No honking of the horns, no traffic jams...keeping of 5 meter minimum distance between the vehicles, no overt taking.......Clean surroundings, no plastic or other rubbish on the roads.
By 0930 we were in Yokohama. The conference officials again waiting for our arrival. They took us first to a complex where there were toilets and facilities for freshing up. But we never bothered to use it to the best, because we are just to check in into the Hotel..........!!
Language was a little issue. Few of them know English so some how we told them to drop into the Toyoko Inn, where we already booked for the one night.
At Toyoko Inn the first shock of the day was waiting for us! The check in time is 4pm. Nearly 5 hours we have to wait. All four of us were totally upset. The Hotel staff was happy to confirm our online booking and they collected the baggages and kept in a big net and asked us to come back by 4pm! It was raining outside and really cool. After the 20 hours of non stop travel waiting for another 5 hours really made us frustrated. The Conference officials took us for a walk around the nearby shopping malls. But we were not in a mood to enjoy anything. We expressed our wish to return to the Hotel and wait for the balance time left.
At the hotel somehow we could convey our difficulty and expressed our willingness to pay extra for the early check-in.....it clicked...1000yen per hour extra. We spent 4000yen extra for two rooms.
Rooms were good, with modular toilet, bath tub...a standard kept in all the other hotels we stayed. Electronic toilet seats, 24hr hot water. Potable water in the wash basin- you can drink it. Good bed, Silent and cool split AC, clean towels, Kettle and small induction stove to make the Cup noodles we carried from India! Common Microwave oven to heat the MTR food pouches in the lobby. Free Internet.in the room... TV is of no use...pay extra for the VOD.....even many X rated videos!
Morning 10am you have to check-out!! Our Conference venue hotel will accept us only at 4pm.
Again the baggage were put under the Net. We left for seeing the cool morning of the famous port city of Yokohama.
Tips: The standard Check in time is 4pm in most of the hotels and the check out by 10am!!
Complimentary Basic breakfast served at the lobby in the morning between 0730-0930. No idea what are the items and no one to help....No or little English....so have to go back to the primitive mode of actions by face and hand. No room service. Soft drink vending machine at the lobby. If you are particular about the food and if on a shoe string travel, carry packed food, preferably in its original pack. No powders or unlabeled packets of home made food items....the incinerator is always ready to take all those in the Customs. Accommodation, food and taxi are very expensive and difficult to manage. So properly plan the trip with minute details.....Keep in mind you get 110Volt AC and need a converter plug for all the gadgets like the lap top charger. The hotel desk ask 1000yen deposit for one converter pin!
Most of the mobile phones we carry here wont work. I collected one from the Matrix and it worked fine...it was a CDMA Keyocera Phone......Good luck....The Trip Advisor logo sticker is there in most of the hotels we stayed!
