The Reef Playacar Resort & Spa - Optional All Inclusive

I would like to say that the staff was super friendly! It’s much nicer than the pictures, a very quaint clean smaller resort with an intimate feel! They provide carafes and two glasses that you can fill up with water. My only complaint is you had to upgrade to get a coffee pot in the room. Never had a problem, getting beach chairs, or a chair by the pool. Always food available. I believe all the rooms have a patio with a nice chair, chairs and a table. I really enjoyed listening to the birds and sitting out in nature! I must say that I had the best deep tissue massage I’ve ever had I wish I had the young ladies name. Rented some jet skis from behind the hotel, which was a blast! Always felt very safe sharpness within walking distance, either way out of the hotel. To the left is a smaller shopping center with outside restaurant into the right you can walk up into play Adele Carmen on fifth Avenue, which may take about 20 minutes.( I’m 54 and short lol) I totally would recommend this hotel for anybody specially if you’re looking for something budget friendly! Definitely would return♥️

First time at the reef and it didn’t disappoint. The resort is a 5/5, staff 4/5 (don’t try to take a coffee mug for a beach walk), food 3/5. Overall, highly recommend and we are already talking about coming back!

My family and I spent half the trip in the hospital. We were hospitalized due to a parasite present in either the food, pool water, or unhygienic surfaces (e.g., bathrooms). Upon our return to our home country, we remain ill and under close supervision by doctors due to the aggressiveness of the parasite. Upon informing the hotel, they remained unconcerned and failed to ensure we were (a) taken care of via room service despite promising such of their own volition, (b) compensating us for the horrors endured, (c) properly ensuring we reached the hospital when the illnesses started (security guards watched Instagram reels on full blast outside of our room as a visiting doctor examined us prior to urgently recommending hospitalization; we were falling over throwing up in bushes as the security guard ran fifteen steps in front of us, unconcerned whether we needed assistance and left my mother to carry us), and (d) attempted to get us to be quieter when complaining of the illness so newly arrived guests would not be in made aware of the horror. This was a complete waste of money, as we spent more time hospitalized than at the resort. Even so, they did not compensate us or refund us. They made a mockery of us and the resort smelled like feces- no wonder we were sick with a parasite contagious through fecal matter. Do not stay here, they couldn’t care less if they infect you with a near deadly parasite.

The Reef is a spectacular oasis for rest, rejuvenation and connection with nature.

Overall stay was ok, decent location close to shopping centers. Pillows and blankets had the scent of food and some stains on bedding

Outstanding dive shop, The Reef Marina, attached to the hotel--first class!

Here are the likes:loved the beach , spacious, soft white sand, blue water very little sargass grass, pretty much none until the last day when it was windy , lounge chairs options were through out the property, we saved seats before we ate breakfast and never had an issue, seemed to be enough for everyone, always felt like it wasn’t crowded, maybe it was the jungle /trees through out ? No lines for meals , activities were great, mostly Elena the activity director!! She was so spunky, great Zumba in the pool, she made mine and my daughters

On a aimé la vegetation dans le site, par contre le buffet et option de restauration très limité.

Upon arrival the front desk manager was arguing with a guest. Not very professional. He was telling her regardless of what she said, he was changing her for a damaged mirror. That’s scary. Upon Checking in we were warned losing the towel card for the pool would result in a $35 charge per key. Scary. We paid for the VIP upgrade. Not worth the cost. They ran out of top shelf alcohol by1pm. Cabanas filled up quickly. Buffet food was terrible. Property was nice. Needs better management.

This beachfront resort is in an excellent area, Playacar, which is gated and feels very safe. Walking, riding bikes or getting a taxi is easy. Outside of Playacar there are shops, historical sites, and museums. Wonderful restaurants locally, as well. But, there is also no reason to leave the Reef as there are restaurants on site, too. Boticelli and Terrazzo grill were our favorites. The Ome Spa was fabulous; we enjoyed our massages. We utilized the dive shop. The staff is helpful and friendly; we had a few delays that were not staff's fault. Also, the captain of the boat dropped us off quite a way from shore in our BCDs making us navigate waves and wind back to shore. Again, not staff's fault who were apologetic. Overall, we found the Reef to meet our needs and expectations.

Sinceramente no regreso ni lo recomiendo a nadie. El concepto del hotel muy bueno igual limpieza, amabilidad, la playa buena, pero la comida Terrible, en el buffet no hay variedad de comida ninguna, siempre lo mismo, la comida fría en muchas ocasiones para no decir todo el tiempo, la calidad horrible, no hay variedad de postres, los cocteles horrible tanto en restaurantes como en el área de la piscina, no hay servicio a la playa, los muebles de las habitaciones viejos y rotos, en dos ocasiones encontré una cucaracha en la habitación. Creo que si le ponen atención a estos temas será un gran hotel. En el momento TERRIBLE

Had a wonderful time at this resort. Was perfect for us. Travelled with husband and two babies. Not too over the top but beautiful. The beach was cleaned up pretty good even if sargassum had started to get bad on a lot of Quintana Roo beaches, no issues for swimming. The area is very quiet and safe but also walking distance to playa del Carmen for a more upbeat feel. Food was good too, and all the workers were so nice. Would love to come back.

The most green and eco friendly resort I ever been. Very clean. The staff is very friendly, especially in restaurants. Look for Sonia .. she will make your day

Nuestra estancia fue muy buena. El buffet principal nos encantó: la comida era muy rica y variada tanto en el desayuno como en la cena. Las bebidas de los diferentes bares también estaban bien preparadas y ricas. Sin embargo, hubo algunos detalles que podrían mejorar. La recepcionista encargada de ayudarnos con la reserva del spa y de brindarnos información general sobre el hotel fue bastante grosera. En nuestro caso, al no aceptar la reserva del spa, mostró molestia y simplemente se fue, lo cual nos pareció poco profesional. Otro aspecto a considerar es que, al momento de llegar, nos dieron una explicación rápida sobre el hotel, pero no hubo personal que nos acompañara a la habitación ni que ayudara con el equipaje. Tuvimos que llegar por nuestra cuenta. Fuera de esos detalles, el hotel es muy bonito, las instalaciones están en buen estado y la habitación se encontraba limpia, salvo por el espejo, que estaba percudido y con manchas.
