Mar Y Oro

Mar Y Oro Hotel and Beach is easily one of the best relaxation spots to recharge for a couple days if not more. The Hotel is on Contadora Island. Rooms are comfortable, we usually get the family suite, even though we are two. The more isolated rooms with fantastic beach views cost more. Check Expedia for great rates. EDIT: 2 years left as of June 2026. We learned this morning that Mar Y Oro Hotel has been sold and will become Semi-Exclusive in 2026. We really appreciate the kind service. This Hotel is a good access point for snorkle and fishing tours. And if you catch fish, they will cook it for you! The beach is one of several on the island that are nice for swimming. It's almost secluded but easy to get to. The most we've seen are about 10 guests, and everyone was just chilling to the bossa nova vibes or swimming in the clear water. The waves here are small to medium at about 4 meters during high tide. At low tide, its the best white noise soothing sound, at least for me. We've been here 4 times over the last 6 years, all good experiences in January, June, September, and October. Arriving to the Island requires either a Ferry ride , (our preference, see photo) or Small plane. Do your own research, and wish you the rest and relaxation you deserve!

The hotel is charming and well appointed situated on a beautiful beach. The staff very helpful and the on site restaurant is very good. In addition there are a few more very good restaurants on the island. The 2 hour ferry ride was easy and pleasant. The breakfast included was very good.

Great beach and friendly staff

Mustve been nice 10 years ago. Kinda let go property. They literally turned off every light at 9pm outside the property. So you cant really hang out after that cause its pitch dark. No one at lobby after that time, we had an emergency and couldnt reach anyone

The staffs are excellent. The staffs are supper caring. The property could use some updating, showing signs of aging. Location is excellent. The property is located on the best beach of the island. Nice beach area.

La propiedad excelente, la habitación contaba con televisión pero no tiene canales, solo funcionaba con internet y no llegaba el internet hasta la habitación, así que no pudimos verla. El trato del personal sobre todo del restaurante es un poco grosero.

Perfect location and amazing dtaff

Ficamos no quarto número 11, não tinha água que te disponível para banho, trataram o problema como irrelevante e enquanto estivemos no quarto este tema não foi resolvido. A atendente Liz da recepção não teve empatia com a situação, pois na primeira noite esperamos que viesse água quente para o banho e perdemos o jantar, pois não informaram que ficavam abertos até às 21:00, isso inclui todos ou a maioria dos restaurantes da ilha. Ela (Liz) debochou da situação e disse que se não tivéssemos esperado a solução teríamos jantado. Também ficou sorrindo da situação. Isso só demonstra o despreparo e falta de treinamento empregado nesta funcionária.

We couldn’t have been happier with our stay at Mar y Oro! Abel and the hotel manager and the restaurant staff go above and beyond to ensure a fabulous stay! We will dream about our time on the island until we can return again! Island shuts down early - this was a learning curve but be sure you have dinner by 7!

Mar Y Oro exceeded our expectations. The location was exceptional -the beach was pristine-with good snorkeling right there.at low tide it was best. The beach is huge, your stay includes beach lounge chairs and and umbrellas. The room (queen room with patio view) was bigger than expected with a smart TV. The walls in the bathroom (and some outside walls) were covered with shells-(plastic I assume) which very unique. A few were missing here and there, but no big deal. The breakfast was delicious and the dinners here and the so were the dinners-especially the seafood pasta which had as much seafood as it did pasta. The staff were helpful and helped us arrange a boat ride. A pick up and drop off to and from the ferry is included also. iWe would definitely stay there again should we return and highly recommend Mar Y Oro!
