Dara Samui Beach Resort

Our stay was excellent! The staff were absolutely amazing, so kind and helpful. The hotel was also perfect, we had welcome drinks on our first night, the dinners on the beach were lovely (slightly expensive, but you expect that), you can borrow things like paddle boards for free from the hotel. Breakfast was also very good with a wide selection of food and an egg bar which made pretty much anything you wanted with eggs. Location was also perfect, at the edge of Chaweng, just a small walk on the beach to all the beach clubs and bars. Would recommend and shall definitely come back.

Pros: Amazing staff - polite and professional. Fantastic restaurant and bar snacks. In a great area in terms of shops and restaurants. Cons: The beach at the rear of the property is not great for swimming - shallow and slimy sand. Very noisy at nightime from the local nightclubs. Room was in need of renovating. Garden view is actually a view over an abandoned area with rubbish. This is one of the hotels in Koh Samui with an old sewage system so you can't put toilet paper in the toilet. Room was a bit stinky. Our room was always one of the last to be cleaned so we had to wait every day for it to be cleaned once we'd finished on the beach.

Wonderfully spacious rooms. Direct access to white sandy beach and walking distance to amazing food and nightlife. This is the perfect spot on Chaweng Beach road.

We loved how beautiful this hotel was, full of character whilst also super clean, comfortable bed, brilliant location (right on the beach). The breakfast was great, they put on an amazing spread every day. Super friendly staff. We had a power cut on our last night and they made sure we had a bright lamp in our room until it came back on. Couldn’t recommend more! The hotel was right off the street but the rooms are so quiet. It was perfect.

It is not an adults only hotel and that was the first disappointment because we booked it precisely for that reason, they should not offer it like that because I saw children every day of my stay. The hotel is very well maintained and the rooms are large and spacious, very nice and clean, the breakfast is very good, the beach is not the best, the water hits your knees if you are lucky, there are better beaches with paid sun loungers, you should wear earplugs because the noise from the clubs is very loud, I did not like that before 5 pm they start collecting all the sun loungers and if you are in the pool they sweep your face to make you leave and the employees change their attitude so you leave because they should be doing their job of setting tables for dinner making guests who are not having dinner and want to enjoy the sunset on the beach and the pool that closes at 7 pm feel like second-class guests. It should be somewhat equitable, half the tables are for dinner and the other half are for those who have just arrived and beach lovers.

The room was so big and nicely decorated with your own balcony. Far from the water. The beach area is quite small and not really swimmable as it is very shallow. You can walk down for bigger beach. It was very loud at night until 4 am but not hotels fault it is the area in which it is located. The food was very good for reasonable prices. Make sure to pay as you go as we had some issues with our drink bills. Not very accessible as there are many stairs and ramps to the restaurant and beach. Breakfast buffet was very good.

Super convenient area close to the main busy part of Chaweng Beach without the noise. Excellent pool with access to beach and plenty of beach chairs for use. Breakfast was varied with thai and western options.

Great hotel, huge rooms and lovely staff.

First things first: All the staff at this property have been super-friendly and responsive. I saw other reviews that complained about the staff. Not sure why. Maybe older. Why am I giving this a 1-Star review? Because the hotel simply isn't what's advertised. This is by no means a "4-Star Resort". It's maybe a 3-star hotel, and an old one at that. If you are a backpack tourist, and you get this for $40: OK! But I paid more than I paid for 5-star resorts in places like Phuket or Bangkok. The beach is horrible. You are not at the open sea, but in a shallow lagoon. You could wade 200m out, climb over a damn, and get to the sea. Yay! One towel a day max? Not enough beach chairs? That's 4-star? Breakfast is good, but the regular restaurant is bad. Cold and flavorless food is hard to do with Thai food, but they do it. Oh, and it is loud, because you are right next to the airport. Worst part: It is all old and run down. The place needs to be renovated badly. To give you an idea: I slept in my clothes, because the room was so run down. Everything smells bad. No AC in the bath. Internet doesn't work. When I told the staff I was cutting my losses and was moving, they told me I couldn't change the reservation. Look: I am not getting what I paid for, so I am leaving. In the end, Expedia reimbursed me, because it was so horrible. They should delist this place as 4-star. Chaweng is also awful, unless you are into smoking cannabis and getting drunk as cheap as possible. Avoid!

Vi har hatt det så utrolig fint på Dara og skulle gjerne vært der noen dager til! Ved innsjekk fikk vi en gratis oppgradering og en så utrolig koselig service. Jeg jobber selv i resepsjon på hotell og ble imponert over hvor serviceminded de ansatte er. Både av housekeeping, restaurant/frokostpersonell og resepsjon. Vi har storkost oss og kommer veldig gjerne igjen neste gang vi er i koh samui! Tusen takk for et supert opphold hos dere :)

Found Dara to be a lovely clean place to stay . Very helpful staff . Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a place on Koh Samui

Lovely hotel fantastic staff

Great hotel, centrally located, well maintained, excellent breakfast. Abagail and the rest of the staff were so friendly and helpful. Only thing preventing me from a full 5 stars is the beach was not as nice as Chaweng beach further south. The water was too shallow, as well as rock and weedy in some places. But if you don’t care too much about swimming in the ocean this hotel is awesome.

This is my second stay at the Dara. And can honestly say it will always be my Hotel of choice every time I visit Koh Samui. Love the place.
