When I leave reviews, the majority of the time they are positive.
But this is not going to be that. I stayed for 4 nights at Hotel Emperador.
The property has significantly more drawbacks than attributes.
The Emperador hotel has 2 attributes:
1. The rooftop patio. A beautiful space, lots of seating availability, views on multiple sides of the building.
2. Staff. The hotel's staff were friendly, hard-working, and tried their best, in the face of being clearly understaffed.
But there are many more drawbacks. The top 3:
1. Noise from outside. The property is in a very busy block of downtown Madrid, where all hours of the night there are sirens blaring, people screaming, horns honking (who honks at 2am?). We heard it all. Every night. Even earplugs couldn't block out the sounds. Good luck with sleeping.
2. Noise from inside. The walls are paper thin. PAPER thin. Every night, LONG conversations would be taking place in the hallway outside our door, that we could hear every word of. Conversations in the next room as well. It was as if these people were actually in our room.
3. Upkeep and amenities in the room. First off, this was a very very basic room. And not kept well. Worn fabric on the chairs, scuff marks on the desk and side tables and the door, carpet in the hallway "bunched up" in various places.
Overall, it is really really not anywhere near a 4 star level, which is what this hotel presents itself as. You can do better, much better, in Madrid.
