Guangzhou is where old-school temples meet mega malls, and street eats go toe-to-toe with high-end restaurants. It’s one of China’s biggest cities, packed with culture, food, and fast-moving markets. Here for business? The Canton Fair is a big one. Just hungry? The dim sum here is next level. Whether you’re planning ahead or just sussing out your options, flights to Guangzhou are easy to lock in, with a bunch of direct flights from around Australia.
Baiyun International Airport is about 28 kms from downtown. Getting there is easy:
May to early September is your best bet for cheap flights. It’s hot and steamy, but you’ll score lower fares and avoid big crowds. Prices go up fast during Chinese New Year (usually January or February) and Golden Week in October. It’s best to skip those dates if you can. Visiting in the off-season means more savings on flights and hotels, and you’ll get more elbow room at the main spots.
From 1 July 2024 to 31 December 2025, Aussies with an ordinary passport can visit China visa-free for up to 30 days. Perfect for quick trips or last-minute plans.
Just remember, final entry is up to the border officers, so check the latest rules before you go. Need a visa? You’ll have to get it sorted before you fly. Hit up your nearest Chinese consulate for all the details.
Leave yourself at least three hours before your flight to Guangzhou. Plenty of time to check in, clear security, and grab a snack.
