I stayed at Novotel Sydney on Darling Harbour for two nights while on vacation, and it was such a great experience! The check-in was super quick, the staff were really friendly, and the room was clean and comfy. The best part? The location! The hotel is right next to a tram stop, so getting around Sydney was a breeze. It’s also just a short walk to the harbour, and there are plenty of cool cafés nearby with amazing coffee. Overall, I loved my stay at Novotel Sydney on Darling Harbour. Totally recommend it!

About Sydney accommodation

Perched on a stunning natural harbour and surrounded by pristine beaches in the east and lush bushland in the west, Sydney is a great place to spend a few days - or more. If you are travelling for work, the CBD has amazing views, beautiful gardens, and waterfront restaurants. This makes even simple business trips feel like a vacation.

And it's not just the city that makes staying here wonderful. Sydney accommodation is world-class. The city boasts accommodation for any kind of traveller, from backpackers on a budget to high-flyers looking for a luxe stay.

Where to stay when you book a hotel in Sydney

Booking accommodation in Sydney means living, even if temporarily, in the heart of the action. You’ll have easy access to public transportation, making it simple to explore the surrounding areas. Plus, Sydney’s hotels cater to all budgets, offering everything from luxury stays to cozy boutique options.

By choosing to stay in the city, you ensure that every moment of your trip fills with excitement and adventure. We know not every traveller wants to stay in Sydney CBD. Here are some areas to consider when you visit.

  • Sydney CBD accommodation: This is the heart of the city. Most major businesses and key attractions are here. You can find the Sydney Opera House, Circular Quay, and the Art Gallery of New South Wales. You'll also have great accessibility to public transport including trains, buses and ferries.
  • Manly and the Northern Beaches accommodation: If you're after a beachy break, consider staying on the north side of Sydney Harbour in Manly. Manly's Corso is easy to reach by ferry or bus. It feels like a world away. The area is full of restaurants and shops. They are just a short walk from the beautiful beach.
  • Bondi and the Eastern Suburbs accommodation: For iconic Sydney beach experiences, mouth-watering cafes without giving up proximity to the city, check out Bondi Beach, Bondi Junction, Bronte, Coogee and just about anywhere else in Waverley Council.
  • North Sydney accommodation: More businesses are opening on the north side of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. You might visit here for work. But North Sydney hotels can also have incredible views of the CBD from across the harbour at a much cheaper rate than staying in the city. best of all? It's just one stop on the train away from the action of a scenic walk across the bridge.

Finding cheap accommodation in Sydney - it is possible!

Finding cheap hotels in Sydney is a savvy traveller’s dream, and we're here to make it come true. With some research, you can find great deals on hotels in the city.

A few budget-friendly options that real Traveloka users have ranked highly include the Jensen Potts Point, Devere Hotel and the Grand Hotel

Here's a few top tips to finding more

  • Stay at hotels on the city fringe, and not right at Circular Quay or Darling Harbour. Accommodations around Central Station or near Kings Cross station tend to be much cheaper, but are still close to train stations. If you don't mind a bit more of a commute, stay a bit further out and you can save even more.
  • Consider private rooms in hostels. Many come with their own en-suites, too, making it feel like a hotel stay for up to half the price.
  • Use Traveloka's simple filters. We can easily add price caps or sort options by the cheapest prices. This way, you won't have to sift through hundreds of bad choices to find your perfect stay.
  • Avoid travelling during peak seasons. Skip Sydney around Christmas, New Year's, long weekends or school holidays when hotel prices rise.

Sydney accommodation costs - how much should you expect to spend?

We'll admit it: Sydney is not the cheapest place to stay. But, it's definitely worth the price! This amazing city has a lot to offer. It has beautiful beaches, lovely national parks, many award-winning restaurants, and interesting museums and galleries.

We do want you do have the most affordable stay possible, though. So before you start searching for your stay, make sure to check out any available discount codes on our promotions page.

Common amenities you'll find at Sydney hotels (and ones you won't)

In the CBD, Sydney accommodations are a bit tight on space. But, they do make the most of what they have.

While it's not uncommon to find parking at or near Sydney hotels, don't expect it to be free – especially in the CBD. Parking is hard to find in the city centre. It might be better to leave your car at home. You can also hire a car for the days you need one.

Booking a Sydney staycation? Here's our top picks

  • The Fullerton Hotel, Sydney, offers a range of elegantly appointed rooms and suites designed to provide guests with a comfortable and luxurious stay. Some rooms offer views of the Sydney skyline or bustling Martin Place. The building that houses The Fullerton Hotel in Sydney has a rich history. The hotel's interior combines contemporary design with the building's heritage elements.
  • Hotel Bondi is located beyond the beach, Bondi offers a variety of attractions and activities, including coastal walks, surfing, shopping on Campbell Parade, and exploring the Bondi Markets. The Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk is a scenic trek that takes you along the coastline to neighboring beaches.
