About Sydney accommodation

About Sydney in Australia

Sydney, the iconic heart of Australia, is globally famous for its scenic beauty, iconic landmarks, and rich cultural heritage. Nestled on the east coast of Australia, Sydney is the state capital of New South Wales and boasts an impressive array of attractions that cater to every type of traveller. From the Sydney Opera House, with its distinctive sail-like design, to the imposing Sydney Harbour Bridge, the city is a playground of architectural and outdoor experience.

One of Sydney's most celebrated features is its stunning harbour, often considered one of the most beautiful natural harbours in the world. This waterway is not only a hub for maritime activities but also the setting for the world-famous Sydney New Year's Eve fireworks, attracting visitors from all corners of the globe. But, beyond that, there are endless spots and fun things to engage in once you’re in Sydney! Be sure to check out these ultimate guides on the city! From the best way to get there, things to do, best accommodations to travel tips!

The Best Way to Get to Sydney

Now, it’s time to navigate your journey to Sydney. Regardless of where you’re coming from, there are several convenient ways to make your to this busy city. Check out some best options to reach Sydney!

By Plane

The most common and efficient way to reach Sydney, especially for international travellers, is by air. Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD) is Australia's busiest airport, serving as the primary gateway to the country. The airport hosts over 35 airlines, offering direct flights from major cities in North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa, as well as extensive domestic connections. Upon arrival, you can easily access the city via taxi, rideshare, or public transport, including a dedicated airport train link offering a quick journey to the city.

By Train

There are several trains taking you from other cities to Sydney, one is NSW TrainLink. The services connect Sydney with key regional and interstate destinations, including Melbourne, Brisbane, and Canberra. The train journey offers a unique opportunity to witness Australia's diverse landscapes, from coastal views to the rugged beauty of the bush.

By Bus

Bus travel is an economical and flexible option for reaching Sydney. Several coach companies offer regular services to Sydney from cities and towns across the country. Buses typically arrive at and depart from the Sydney Central Coach Terminal, located adjacent to Central Station.

By Car

Driving to Sydney offers the ultimate flexibility, allowing travellers to explore at their own pace and take in the sights of the Australian landscape. Sydney is well-connected by a network of highways and motorways, making it accessible from all directions.

Transportation Options to Get Around Sydney

While the city is famous for its stunning harbour and iconic landmarks, you can explore the city through some options!

By Bus

Sydney's extensive bus network is an efficient and cost-effective way to explore the city and its suburbs. Operated by Transport for NSW, buses cover extensive routes that include areas not serviced by trains or ferries. Key bus corridors in the CBD are equipped with modern, air-conditioned vehicles making stops at major attractions, shopping districts, and beaches. The use of an Opal card for fare payment makes hopping on and off buses convenient, offering lower fares, daily travel caps, and the flexibility of tap-on tap-off service.

By Train

The Sydney Trains network is the backbone of public transport in the city, offering a fast and reliable way to navigate Sydney and its outer suburbs. The network encompasses suburban lines that radiate from the Central Business District (CBD) to outer suburbs. Some operated trains in Sydney are Endeavour, Waratah, Millennium, Tangara, Oscar, K-set, Hunter, and V-set.

By Taxi

Taxis offer convenient door-to-door transportation within Sydney, available 24/7. Taxi services can be hailed on the street, booked via phone, or through dedicated apps. Taxi stands are also conveniently located at airports, train stations, and major public areas.

By Ferry

Perhaps the most scenic way to travel in Sydney is by ferry. The Sydney Ferries service operates from Circular Quay, a major transport hub located in the heart of Sydney Harbour, providing routes that connect the CBD with popular waterfront destinations such as Manly, Taronga Zoo, and Parramatta. Ferries offer not only a practical mode of transport but also a unique opportunity to experience stunning views of the Harbour, the Sydney Opera House, and the Harbour Bridge.

YEHS Hotel Sydney CBD
Location was great! Near tram, China town and town hall which are plenty of restaurant, food, shop and easy to travel with public transportation. In a room can hear other a bit when they close a door and speak at corridor. Staff was great support to guide travel spot in Sydney, I talked with Thai staff, K. Pair. Some guests smoked in a room and I smell strong smoked then I called to reception and very fast response from staff to tell that room. And other were very supportive and help me to pick up area for limousine service that I booked from credit card to go to airport. Thank you all staff for great support.

The Ultimo
Staying at The Ultimo might be the best decision out of all of my trip in Sydney! Before our visit, I contacted the hotel through email to confirm several things and they are quite helpful and responsive. When we arrived, we found the family room is quite spacious for 4 people, we even can comfortably open all of our gigantic luggages at the same time inside. The cleanliness on our bedroom and bathroom are also great, and the staff are getting it thoroughly clean everyday. But, during our stay, the lift was broken and we got our room on the third level - the highest level (yikes!). It is understandable, but I hope they can warn visitors before the visit in the future. Moreover, the staff was also helpful with it, they always make sure if we need any assistance in carrying our luggage during our check-in and out. Finally, the best part of the hotel is its location! It is located in front of the Paddy's market, near Chinatown and its LRT stop, and only 5 minutes walk to the Darling Harbour. It was truly a blast to discover this hotel for our stay.
