Excellent location. Only 5 minutes walk from Aldgate East tube with 3 tube lines. Also only 5 minutes walk from Brick Lane. Very clean modern hotel with very helpful staff and a/c. Rooms are a good size for 2 and include a very small kitchen with dishwasher, fridge & hob. Very good breakfast and hot and cold drinks are provided free in a huge light and relaxing lounge. Highly recommend

Rooms are fairly small, especially the bathrooms, however the gym is well equipped to get a quick session in. Good vibe about the hotel/apartments in general.

The location was pretty close to both Aldgate East (3-5 minute walk) and Aldgate (7-10 minute walk) stations, which made getting around the city pretty easy. It is a little farther from many of the tourist attractions than I’d realized by looking at a map, but thankfully I wasn’t too crunched for time during my visit. My biggest frustration about my stay was with communication and check-in. I’d been in contact with the hotel through Expedia, and had booked two add-ons for my stay—early check-in and daily breakfast— through links to their website they had sent me. I was approved for both, and had printed the confirmation. When I arrived, staff said they didn’t have a record of these add-ons. After a 12 hour travel day and navigating an hour to the hotel from the airport during the end of June heat wave, I didn’t remember I had the print out. They were able to prepare a room for me to check into, but the price for both the early check in and the breakfast add on was higher than the price I was shown on the website. While in GBP it wasn’t a significant cost difference, when converted to USD it was noticeable. The rain head shower in the room had barely any water pressure, but the handheld option was wonderful. The bathroom was tight, but functional. The breakfast food selection was nice, and the lounge and terrace, while both relatively small, were excellent additional spaces to spend some time. I’d consider staying here again!

Good hotel with a clean room and great facilities. We booked an Urban Studio which is compact but has everything you need. Perfectly fine for a 2 night stay. The hotel gave us a room as request which was much appreciated. There is a bar on the ground floor and breakout / breakfast room on 5th. Here you can get complimentary hot and cold drinks at all times which was great. There were only a couple of minor draw-backs. Some aspects of the room needed a bit of attention, showing signs of wear and tear. Also, the breakfast was lacking a cooked meat to accompany the beans and eggs. The hotel is is in a good location, close to the tube Aldgate East which makes for easy access around London.

Breakfast was continental, no full English. TV did not tune-in in the rooms. The rooms were clean and tidy with bottles water in the fridge on arrival, does have a coffee machine in room and when asked housekeeping will bring extra pods. The small kitchenette is stocked with kitchen utensils. Level 5 has an area for coffees and teas 24 hour and you can sit out on the terrace. Staff were warm and welcoming.

Generally reliably good, been coming here for years. This time I noticed the room’s carpet was pretty stained and the TV was useless - timed cut out and poor streaming meant we couldn’t watch a World Cup football match in the room as planned. But the location is great, the hotel is stylish, the aircon fabulous and the Level 5 lounge and breakfast really lovely. Would always be happy to stay at The Gate

This was not a luxury hotel. Firstly the good stuff. The staff and reception area were great. They were helpful, friendly and professional. The location was perfect for the tube. Nearest station (Aldgate East) 3 minute walk. The bad bit. The room. It was fairly old and tired. Carpet tiles on a concrete floor with no underlay made it very uncomfortable to walk on without shoes. The carpet had stains on it. The room was so small you had to walk past the bed sideways. In fact it was so compact I managed to stub my toe on the bed leg within an hour of arriving resulting in a lacerated toe which needed medical attention and pretty much caused me to limp all weekend. The TV did not work at all. I reported this twice to reception and it got fixed on the last day of our stay. It’s not a bad hotel just not very special. Very expensive for what it is. Better options are probably available

Avoid at all costs. This hotel double booked us-staff said it is usual practice- and they struggled to find alternative accommodation until 4-5am! My children had to be sent to separate hotels as they could not find an alternative with 2 rooms. The Night Manager wasn’t terribly professional. The nightmare didn’t even end there- check in at the new hotel wasn’t smooth as they hadn’t paid for it and advised that we pay on a credit card to be reimbursed until we really dug our heels in then they managed to pay for this. No refund issued as yet- ‘no one at the hotel has the authority to do so’.
