I stayed with my family with 2 rooms. There are renovated rooms, so make sure with your options before you make the booking. The room view is amazing. The staff is very helpful. We can borrow an umbrella if you don’t bring one. They also help me get a taxi to the airport at 4.30 am. Thank you Keio Hotel

Verified Traveler
Review of Shinjuku Washington Hotel Main, Tokyo. Shinjuku Washington Hotel Main offers a practical and comfortable stay in one of Tokyo’s most convenient districts. Located in West Shinjuku, near the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, the hotel is well positioned for both sightseeing and business travel. It is about an 8-minute walk from JR Shinjuku Station, and the underground passageway is especially helpful on rainy days. The Airport Limousine Bus stop at the hotel is another major advantage for international travelers. Location and Accessibility. The location is one of the hotel’s strongest points. Guests can easily reach shopping areas, restaurants, department stores, and major train connections in Shinjuku. Although the walk from the station may feel slightly long after a busy day, the area is safe, organized, and convenient. The hotel is particularly suitable for travelers who want easy access to central Tokyo while staying in a quieter part of Shinjuku. Room Quality. The rooms are clean, functional, and equipped with essential facilities such as a work desk, refrigerator, air conditioning, private bathroom, and internet access. As is common in Tokyo, standard rooms are rather compact, especially for guests traveling with large luggage or staying as a family. However, the room layout is efficient and comfortable enough for short to medium stays. Cleanliness and Comfort. Cleanliness is generally well maintained. Many recent guests have praised the tidy rooms and good overall condition of the property. While some areas of the hotel may feel slightly dated, the atmosphere remains professional and dependable. It is a good choice for travelers who prioritize convenience, cleanliness, and reliability over luxury. Breakfast and Dining. Breakfast is one of the hotel’s most appreciated features. Guests frequently mention the generous buffet selection, which includes both Japanese and international dishes. The hotel also has several restaurants and food options within the building, making dining easy after a long day of travel. This is especially convenient for guests who prefer not to go far for meals. Facilities and Services. The hotel offers practical services that make the stay smoother, including luggage handling, laundry services, a taxi stand, and access to convenience stores and dining outlets within or near the building. The Airport Limousine Bus connection is a major plus. Staff service is generally efficient and polite, although the large scale of the hotel can sometimes make the experience feel less personal than in smaller boutique properties. Value for Money. Considering its location, transportation access, breakfast quality, and range of facilities, Shinjuku Washington Hotel Main provides solid value for money in central Tokyo. It may not be ideal for travelers seeking spacious rooms or a highly luxurious atmosphere, but it is very suitable for tourists, solo travelers, couples, and business guests who want a dependable hotel in a strategic location. Overall Impression. Overall, Shinjuku Washington Hotel Main is a reliable and convenient hotel with excellent access to transportation, good breakfast, clean rooms, and useful on-site services. Its greatest strengths are location and practicality. The main drawback is the limited room size, which is typical for Tokyo but worth noting before booking. For travelers who want to stay in Shinjuku with easy connections across Tokyo, this hotel is a very good option.

The hotel is large and very clean. The staff provide polite and impressive service. There are plenty of facilities available inside the building. The room size is suitable for two guests. The room is decorated in a minimalist style, creating a simple and comfortable atmosphere, and it also offers a nice outside view. The housekeeping staff do an excellent job of keeping the room clean. If I have the chance, I would definitely stay here again and recommend this hotel to others.

Why Book Cheap Hotels in Japan?

Japan, a land of ancient traditions and cutting-edge technology, is a dream destination for many. However, the perception of Japan as an expensive country can deter budget-conscious travelers. The good news is that finding cheap hotels in Japan is entirely possible, allowing you to experience this incredible country without breaking the bank. By opting for affordable hotels in Japan, you free up your travel budget to indulge in authentic experiences, such as savoring delicious ramen, exploring historic temples, or riding the iconic bullet train. Choosing budget hotels in Japan means you can extend your stay, delve deeper into the local culture, and create lasting memories. Instead of allocating a large portion of your funds to accommodation, you can allocate it to exploring the vibrant cities, serene landscapes, and unique attractions that Japan has to offer.

Best Areas to Find Cheap Hotels in Japan

Knowing where to stay in Japan to find affordable accommodation is key to a budget-friendly trip. Several neighborhoods and districts across the country offer a range of cheap hotels in Japan. In Tokyo, consider areas like Asakusa, Ueno, and Ikebukuro. These districts offer a mix of traditional guesthouses, business hotels, and budget-friendly accommodations, all while providing easy access to the city's main attractions. Osaka's Shin-Osaka and Namba areas are also excellent choices, known for their convenient transportation links and diverse range of budget hotels in Japan. For families, areas near major train stations or with easy access to family-friendly attractions are ideal. Couples might prefer quieter neighborhoods with a romantic atmosphere, while business travelers often seek hotels near business districts and transportation hubs. Backpackers will find many hostels and guesthouses in areas like Kyoto's Gion district, offering a social and affordable experience. No matter your travel style, researching different areas will help you pinpoint the perfect location for your affordable hotels in Japan.

Tips for Finding Cheap Hotels in Japan

  • Book early to secure the best rates: The earlier you book your accommodation, the more likely you are to find lower prices and a wider selection of rooms.
  • Travel during off-peak seasons: Avoid traveling during popular holidays like Golden Week (late April to early May) and cherry blossom season (late March to early April) to take advantage of lower hotel rates.
  • Compare prices across different dates: Even shifting your travel dates by a few days can sometimes result in significant savings on hotel costs.
  • Use filters such as Wi-Fi, breakfast, or proximity to public transportation: When searching for hotels online, use filters to narrow down your options and find accommodations that offer the amenities you need at a price you can afford.

Best Time to Visit Japan on a Budget

The best time to visit Japan on a budget is during the shoulder seasons – spring (late April to May) and autumn (September to November), excluding major holidays. While these periods still offer pleasant weather and beautiful scenery, the crowds are generally smaller, and hotel rates are more reasonable compared to peak seasons like cherry blossom season and Golden Week. Traveling during the winter months (December to February) can also be a good option for budget travelers, as many hotels offer discounted rates to attract visitors during the colder months. However, be prepared for colder temperatures and potential snowfall, especially in northern regions.

Getting Around Japan Affordably

Japan boasts an efficient and extensive public transportation system, making it easy to get around without spending a fortune. The Japan Rail (JR) Pass is a popular option for tourists planning to travel extensively by train, offering unlimited travel on JR lines for a set period. However, it's essential to calculate whether the pass is cost-effective based on your itinerary. Within cities, consider using local subway lines and buses, which are generally affordable and convenient. Many areas are also walking-friendly, allowing you to explore at your own pace while saving on transportation costs. Renting a bicycle can also be a fun and affordable way to discover local neighborhoods and attractions.

I had such a nice stay here! The room was comfy, everything was clean, and the staff were super sweet. Plus, the location is convenient—easy to get around and close to everything I needed. There is one big supermarket nearby as well (about 150 meters away from the hotel) Would happily come back again!
