Amazing experience! The food was great and the drinks were tasteful. The staff was very friendly and attention to detail. I had the best experience because of them very welcoming and hospitality unlike no other. Money well spent definitely coming back especially to Playa De Carmen just to stay here.

This resort is conveniently located on the beach in downtown Playa which makes access to 5th Ave restaurants and shops a short walk. The property is beautiful and well maintained with a nice stretch of beach, multiple pools, restaurants and bars on site. The half board option provides breakfast and the option to choose lunch (which you can order on the beach) or dinner which is perfect if you like to explore local restaurants for dinner. The quality of the food and drinks is very good and the staff deserves a shout out for their fantastic service and attention to detail. Ishmael, Armando, Enrique, Manuel and the rest of the staff too many to name will make you feel at home and go above and beyond to make your stay enjoyable. These guys work really hard and let you know that they appreciate you ‘re staying with them . I don’t typically write reviews but have stayed at this resort on many occasions and continue to return. From what we’ve seen it appeals to singles, couples, groups and families. When you experience the view of the crystal blue water while eating breakfast or the sunrise on the beach a few steps from your room you’ll be planning your return trip.

Gorgeous resort on the beach. Beautiful, clean, comfortable room in a bungalow overlooking one of the pools. Friendly staff. Hammocks on every terrace. Took us a day to even notice there was no TV in the room —we like TV but didn’t miss it for a moment.

If you’re going to Expedia. You may think that this is all inclusive. It is but you have to pay extra for it! With the all inclusive and the extra fees, the hotel throws at you. Expect to spend about $1900 extra. Just under 1600 for the all-inclusive. And 300 and extra. Once I got past the initial shock of extra fees. It was an amazing resort! I would suggest getting a room in the upper 100s room. Far enough away from the music. We stayed in 179. Great room, great staff, and amazing food! Absolutely beautiful here. They don’t runoff the wildlife either. Had a cute Coati that lives in a tree next to my room.

Terrible hotel, and experience with this hotel and rental car in enterprise from Expedia, We arrived around 3 am in the this hotel because we have some problems with the rental in enterprise rental car from Expedia in the beginning. like i said before. So Since the minute we arrived at the hotel was horrible, nobody received our car, they didn't have parking space and told us to park outside in the street and use a parking spot to pay with coin every hr. This was ridiculous because they didn't even try to help or give us chance to keep the car , The reception guy was very unprofessional and the guy was unhappy and with mood attitude, he didn't even help for our luggage or asked about it, nobody was there to help or receive our luggage in the beginning. So after we saw this inconvenience we want to check the room and nothing like I saw in the pictures. Ocean view were was blocked from another unit. A little bathroom with one sink. Very disappointed and the guy he didn't even know where was our room or what sección was in the hotel. Looks like he was sleeping and we interrupted , probably is the reason was upset. Terrible experience at 3 am we have to leave this hotel after all of these. Almost 5000 dlls for 1 week snd even i complained and expedia didn't want to give us a refund for that Terrible hotel and rental car. I never have thia kind the experience with Expedia. But this time you have to think two times about to get a package or any hotel in different countries.

Expedia is what can be improved not the resort! The resort was beautiful. Only 2 restaurants open out of 3! We had no notification of that… so very little choice for all inclusive. Not fair. On top of that annoyance, I was also charged extra when arrived for my child. I booked my 10year old with us as I always do. I chose the age as there is that option there when you click on child. I received confirmation email stating 2 adults and a child not infant. No age was showing in the receipt. I didn’t think much of it at the moment. So at the resort because of Expedia issue I had to pay over $1200 USD! Beware. Double check everything and call I would say. Do not rely on just email confirmation. I didn’t get much help from Expedia they covered $400 out of this whole price. This was an issue. As we had a family of 5 booking through Expedia as per my recommendation! Very very disappointed.

The staff is always AMAZING! But I sent several requests for a specific room and they were ignored. That was my 6th stay at Mahekal so I know what I need. The room they gave me was surrounded by loud people yelling and slamming doors and too close to other noise. There was a leak in the roof and it rained in the room. Not a big deal fortunately not on the bed. I just wished my emails didn’t go ignored. Especially since I am a loyal guest of the hotel.

Wasn’t given upgraded room like VIP Access Hotels normally do (cost me an extra $600), when I searched for the hotel I had “all inclusive only” selected but this place is only PARTIALLY all inclusive (was an extra $900 if I wanted to do it), the “penthouse” I upgraded too has ZERO sound insulation so you can’t sleep because they party until 2am (not kidding) right outside the room, it was not airtight so I got stung by mosquitoes virtually every night, and they wouldn’t let me cancel. Additionally their ad says “hot tub on site” which is false advertising because there is NOT (it’s a jetted tub that’s the same temperature as the pool).

Our stay was great. I'll start with the bad. We had a tropical storm and it flooded our room. But the staff was attentive and came that morning, cleaned the room, put plexiglass over the screen, so that when it rained again, the rain had less of a chance to get into the room. That mostly helped, but the window seal was in need of repair and we discovered that is where some of the rain was coming into the room. So, when it rained again, we still had rain on our floor, but less of it. Again, they came right away the next morning and cleaned it up while we were at breakfast. Okay, the great things I loved about this place... EVERYONE was so nice and welcoming. Daniel checked in daily via text. The servers at the pools were circling back right when you needed a refill. There was daily activities going on around the resort, rain or shine. We only ate at the restaurants a few times but what we had was good. We ventured off the resort for dinner because we were so close to walking distance to anything and everything you might be in the mood for. Navigating around was easy with Google Maps. Overall, I would recommend this resort to family and friends.

The check in process was easy but the package we purchased was not explained at all. We also were not greeted with the complimentary welcome drink. There were plenty of staff at the resort during the day however there was not any pool service and you had to go to the bar to order drinks over and over. The property itself it’s absolutely stunning and very easy to relax. Beaches were clean, pools were clean, and chairs were plentiful. The food options were limited and menus did not change so by the end of the week you are burned out of the same meals. The village within walking distance was a plus as we got to shop and eat with the locals. Checkout was quick but no way to easily check if the charges were correct since they were not dated. Very good value resort. We enjoyed our stay.

We just got back from 10 nights at the Mahekal. We got a free upgrade as it was low season, which was great, though the view from the balcony was poor in one room. Check-in was smooth, cleaning was thorough and regular and the facilities were great. No problems finding a spot at the pools or the beach. The only downsides were that my son lost his key card on the second day and the receptionist wanted US$15 for a new one, which is a ridiculous price — many hotels do them for free and we had spent so much on the rooms that this seemed like and extra “squeeze” to me; the other was that they wanted to charge US$60 per room to check out three hours after the checkout time — again, another “squeeze” to get more out of their customers. This is why I have marked them down for service. That said, the entire resort is all about US-style tips and extra payments here and there, so I guess the mentality simply fits in with the local ethos. Lovely hotel though

We had the absolute pleasure of staying at Mahekal Beach Resort in Playa del Carmen, Mexico for the entire month of August, and it was, hands down, one of the best travel decisions we've ever made. August is considered low season, but that worked in our favor — the resort was peaceful, beautifully lush, and we got to truly immerse ourselves in everything it has to offer. We stayed in the penthouse room, which offered breathtaking views of the beach, infinity pool, and one of their restaurants. Waking up each morning to the sound of the ocean and tropical birds was nothing short of magic. But what made our stay truly unforgettable was the people. The staff at Mahekal are some of the most genuine, kind-hearted, and attentive individuals we’ve ever encountered. My husband, our 9-year-old daughter, and I felt so taken care of — like we were truly welcomed and looked after every day. A special thank you to Abraham, one of Mahekal’s supervisors, who made such a lasting impression on us. He checked in with us daily and went above and beyond for our daughter — surprising her with treats and organizing a beautiful early birthday celebration that she'll never forget. His warmth and thoughtfulness were a highlight of our stay. We also want to recognize the incredible restaurant and pool staff — truly some of the best humans we've met! A huge shoutout to: Enrique (Qique), Manuel, Braian, Ana, Ignacio, Marco, Juan, Maria, Emilia, Annibal, Uriel, Ismael (barista/bartender), Camelia, En

This resort is perfectly located. The staff is wonderful, the food was great! I give it a 8/10. They need natural bug repellent since the mosquitos are relentless. Slippers and robes would be nice. Some areas need a little upgrade. Overall I would stay here again!
