About Yogyakarta

Yogyakarta is one of the provinces in Indonesia that still upholds Javanese customs and culture. As a special region, Yogyakarta is not led by the Governor but a king instead, following the provisions of the August 19, 1945, Charter. Yogyakarta is also endowed with abundant natural wealth, seen from the many tourist attractions in Yogyakarta that attract local and foreign tourists. Geographically, Yogyakarta is directly bordered by Magelang Regency in the north, Klaten Regency in the east, the Indian Ocean in the south, Purworejo Regency in the west, and Wonogiri Regency in the southeast. Before Indonesia gained its independence and the region’s designated as the Special Region of Yogyakarta, it was once the Swapraja region, a part of the Yogyakarta Sultanate State and the Pakualaman Duchy. Yogyakarta had four districts and one municipality then. Lowlands and mountains dominate Yogyakarta, and you’ll see Mount Merapi that’s still active and stretches from Sleman Regency to parts of Bantul Regency. In addition to the active mountains, there are many other natural tourism objects, such as beaches and waterfalls. For those of you who want to spend an exciting vacation, Yogyakarta is worth your visit.
