From the start of the ascent, climbers will see the magnificent crater complex of Mount Papandayan surrounded by high cliffs. The plumes of smoke and bubbling sulfur water show how active this mountain is. The pungent smell of sulfur from the crater is actually the main attraction. Rest posts are also quite comfortable with the establishment of several local stalls to Gober Hut Camping Ground, after about 1.5 hours of climbing. Hikers can see a huge avalanche that once cut through the main trail. Then also pass a beautiful small river with fresh mountain water. The camp site, Pondok Saladah, is no less interesting.
