Baichuan Township
North of Nagoya, in Gifu Prefecture's Shogawa River Basin, Shirakawa Township's Ogimachi area is renowned for its Gassho-zukuri. UNESCO recognized the distinctive landscapes of villages like Shirakawa-go and Gokayama in December 1995 as the "Gassho-zukuri Settlement of Shirakawa-go and Gokayama."
Each winter, charming villages emerge with thatched cottages featuring herringbone-shaped roofs, creating a serene and picturesque landscape.

Hida Takayama Ancient Town

Hira Tonomori
Indulge in the renowned hot spring facility "Hirayu no Mori" in Okuhida. Immerse yourself in 16 open-air hot springs, large baths, saunas, and cold water baths amid lush greenery. Relax in a famous gassho house in Hida Takayama, savoring Hida beef and local dishes in the on-site restaurant. With a souvenir shop and coffee shop, it's the perfect spot for a day-long retreat.

Please understand that the return time may be delayed in case of traffic jams and other circumstances.

Because Shirakawa Township is located in a mountainous area, the temperature will drop sharply after nightfall in winter, and the roads will be icy and slippery. Therefore, it is strongly recommended to wear snow boots and waterproof non-slip shoes.

The winter in Shirakawa Township is from mid-December to March, and the snowfall is the most from early January to mid-February, and the temperature ranges from zero degrees Celsius to minus 5 degrees Celsius. It is very cold in the morning and evening, please wear warm down jackets, thick socks, scarves/neck covers, hats, and gloves to keep warm.

Since Baichuan Township will stay late to participate in the lighting event, and the night is very cold, it is recommended to bring more warm packs, which can be placed in gloves, attached to the body and placed in shoes.

The ultraviolet rays are relatively strong, so it is recommended to wear sunglasses.

Please carry a mobile power charger with you, because when the temperature is below zero degrees Celsius, the life of the mobile phone battery is usually shortened, resulting in faster power consumption.
