Opened in 1965, the National Mosque of Malaysia symbolizes the nation's unity and independence. Its massive prayer hall, which accommodates 15,000 people, and 73-meter-high minaret are surrounded by beautiful gardens, ponds, and fountains. Tourists are welcome to the enter the mosque outside of prayer times and must be dressed modestly; robes are provided for free. The Heroes' Mausoleum, where several Malaysian political leaders are buried, also lies in the complex.
