5 Activities You Can Do while Celebrating Eid al-Fitr All by Yourself

It has been quite a tradition, especially in Indonesia, to gather with family and friends on Eid al-Fitr and celebrate it with joy. People would greet each other with “Eid Mubarak”, which means “have a blessed Eid”, and start the ritual of asking forgiveness from each other.

However, this year might be different as some people might have to spend the holy day all by themselves. Well, if you fit into this category, you may try these activity ideas to make you feel less alone.

Stay in touch with your family

To avoid feeling lonely on a special day, try to stay in touch with your family using online platforms. Whether it is through video call or by exchanging photos, it will lessen how you miss everybody back home especially in this exceptional moment, where meeting them in person is not possible.

Aside from your family, don’t forget to also send some greetings to your friends especially to those who are experiencing the same thing as you are.

Order the Eid al-Fitr special dishes

Cooking can be troublesome when you live alone. Especially to prepare Eid al-Fitr special dishes. To make it more convenient, you can order some delicious dishes, such as ketupat (a rice cake boiled in a rhombus-shaped packet of plaited young coconut leaves) or chicken braised in coconut milk out for delivery.

Ever since the physical distancing rule has become mandatory, there are more and more people who try to make a living by selling the Eid al-Fitr special dishes as a package. Such a time-saving solution, right?

Spend the rest of the day binge-watching

Do you still have more time to spend but have no idea what to do? Well, you can sit back, relax, and binge-watching your favourite series or movies. This will keep you entertained and make the time go faster as if you don’t have the time to be grieving by spending Eid al-Fitr alone.

Do some basic housekeeping

Although it sounds like a tough chore to do, it doesn’t have to be a thorough cleaning in one full day. You can do it one step at a time.

Start by separating your old clothes from your wardrobe and have them donated if you think it is still wearable. Aside from making room for some new clothes, you are also doing someone else a kindness especially to those in need. Such a nice idea, isn’t it?

Do some online shopping

Nah, not the one where you spend your money impulsively to buy things that you don’t really need. Instead, you can buy something nice online and have them shipped as an Eid al-Fitr gift for your loved ones. Even though you are far away from each other, it is the thought that counts.

Even though it feels a little different, celebrating Eid alone can still feel special. Some of the recommendation activities above can certainly help you get through this difficult time. Stay healthy and happy!
